That guy is an asshole. If you play with fire you're gonna get burned. If you can't think of any real topics for you show except insulting random people you don't like, or even are indifferent to, eventually you'll step out of line and the person's gonna bite back.

Personally I think its like disciplining Lewis Black for being crass, that's all he knows.

Imus makes his audience by being an asshole, punishing him for being one is like telling someone to drive and taking away the keys when they stop too far across the line at a stop sign, its bound to happen some time, and it's not really the driver's fault, especially if you don't tell him you're going to punish him for that.

In the end, however, I'm not coming to Imus' rescue, or even supporting him now that he's been suspended on questionable grounds because, well, he's an asshole!

No, Imus shouldn't have been fired. I don't believe in firing someone for saying something stupid. There are a lot of guys who have said far worse, and not been fired. I believe, if people have that much of a problem with him, they'll stop listening, and then the station will have to replace him for a business decision. The whole thing got blown out way to big. People need to get a thick skin. I mean, who cares what some old idiot on the radio calls you? A "nappy headed ho" is hardly the most offensive insult I've ever heard. You get worse in our Flame Wars section. I'm frankly disgusted with the whole story, and making a huge deal out of it only makes it more disgusting.

was it blown out of proportion? yes. does he deserved to fired? yes. he made insulting comments regularly. they didnt fire for him for this one incident, they fired him for a number of comments he has made over the years.

It's not that he made the comment, its that he ticked off the wrong people at the wrong time. If they never complained he wouldn't have gotten in trouble.

.......which wouldn't have happened without this comment. What really happened is Sharpton and Rev. Jackson took up the cause, and made a lot more out of it than should have been made. I do not think that Imus should have been fired unless it was purely for business and financial reasons, which I highly doubt. Imus should have the right to say what he chooses to say show just as people have the right to choose not to listen to his show in which case his ratings would drop so low that he would eventually be fired for not bringing in the ratings he would need to in order to stay competitive. I think that MSNBC and CBS gave in to pressure from people like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and even Barack Obama wanting Imus to be fired. Imus was basically fired because people didn't like what he said and were "offended". So, because MSNBC and CBS didn't want to be considered racist either, they got rid of Imus. So, who's next? Apparently, you're not allowed to say what you think anymore. I'm not defending Imus' remark about the Rutgers womens basketball team. I think Imus' remark was rude and stupid. I don't think he should be fired for saying that though and that he should be able to say whatever he wants whether it's stupid or not because he has the right to do so just like every other American. I also don't understand why this issue with Imus is getting so much media coverage and why it has generated so much outrage when the words Imus was fired for saying are used by rappers all the time in worse ways. Where is the media coverage for that? Why aren't they being called upon to apologize? Why aren't their jobs being taken away? Is it because there is a double-standard? Why is it that Al Sharpton, Malik Shabazz, and others who were so utterly convinced that the Duke Lacrosse players were guilty, being called out so strongly to apologize for being wrong? Why isn't the girl who accused them being called forth to apologize to these boys? Somehow, though, Imus makes a rude comment that he's apologized for and he gets fired for it. Strange if you ask me.

The fact that the outcry against Imus was largely led by opportunistic nitwits shouldn't overshadow the fact that he issued a racial and misogynistic eptithet over public airwaves. This is what the FCC exists to prevent. The fact that the black community is often unwilling to police themselves should not be taken into consideration, except to call upon them to do the same.

his intention was to compliment the players, not insult them. he was just trying to be "hip" and used lingo which the media has dictated inappropriate for use by white people. I don't think he should have been fired, I think he shouldn't have been comentating the match in the first place. seriously, did they (the people or person who put him in that position) really think that he was a suitable candidate? that he was going to be intelligent or even have anything to say worth hearing?
