Running CC User Scripts on Opera

Post by Victor Sullivan »

Omg! I figured out how to run CC user scripts on Opera! :D I'm so excited!! :D

Not sure if anyone else has figured it out yet, but I'll tell you how I did it (and I had a bunch of spare time, so if I re-wrote an already existing tutorial, then no harm, no foul) :)

  1. Download Opera for Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux here.
  2. Go to whichever script you'd like to install, and click on the appropriate link to install it.
  3. Instead of installing, the script will appear in your Opera browser as a jumbled mess of characters to all but the tech-savvy.
  4. Right click (or hold Control and click, if you're using a Mac mouse) on the screen and select "Source" from the menu that appears (make sure you are right-clicking on the page itself, not the text).
  5. The same jumbled mess of characters should appear, but in a more Word-document-looking fashion.
  6. Click on the "Save" button in the top-left-hand corner of the browser (alternatively, you can select File --> Save As...).
  7. Name the file whatever you wish, but make sure the ".user.js" extension exists within the file name.
  8. Opera doesn't like saving the file as a ".js" file, so it will make you save it as an HTML file (.html) - that's fine, just make sure to select "Use Both Extensions".
  9. Save the file in a folder dedicated to just your user scripts.
  10. Go to the file you saved the document in and delete the ".html" extension from the file name.
  11. Go back to Opera and select Opera --> Preferences... --> Advanced --> Content --> JavaScript Options... --> Choose...
  12. Select your designated user script folder and click "Browse for Folder" (which essentially means "OK" for our purposes).
  13. You'll notice a bunch of boxes that may be checked or unchecked - these shouldn't matter too much, but I have all checked but "Open console on error".
  14. Select "OK" and "OK", restart Opera, and voila!
  15. For any additional scripts, just save them in the folder as directed before then restart Opera again and you should be A-OK :)

NOTE: Greasemonkey is not necessary to run scripts on Opera (nor does it work on Opera).

Interesting, though I think Opera isn't very popular amongst CC-players.
Which scripts did you try, and did they work fully? I can think of a few hings that could break.

Clickable maps and BOB. Both seemed to work for me :)

I wonder if this would work with the browser on the Wii. I think that is Opera, or Opera-based. (I never loaded it, since I had crummy internet until recently. I may get to it someday.)

Oh owen, good to see you back in these forums as well.

Also, I've used it for testing purposes, but not more than that.

Victor, YOU DA MAN!

You got hot CC gals wanting to drink you! Yes, I am jealous!

I am ditching Fire fox if I can get these scripts to work and NO MORE Google, Ixquick now. I got the clickables maps working first shot but cant get BOB going on Opera.

Got any juice to spare? Or did they drink it? ;)

Hey, Freaky1! :) BOB and clickable maps both worked fine for me. Is the file extension of the BOB script .user.js? Did you restart your browser after you saved the .user.js file into the folder that contains your clickable maps script?
