That's weird. It was working, but it's not now. Hmmm, I'll have to check my imageshack account and see if there is something up there.Flapcake wrote:thers no image ? its no shown

Ah. I had no idea. That makes sense though. Thanks, I'll try that.natty_dread wrote:Sometimes some of imageshacks servers go down, it helps to upload it again and hope the new upload gets hosted on a different server.
It's a very rough sketch. The background can be changed easily. I'd like to find something similar to what I have there but not quite so intrusive...maybe adjusting the opacity of it may help as well.Flapcake wrote:it is a little rough sketch you've made, the city's design seems like an interesting map, the background I'm not so crazy about, but I think there is something to build on.
I think you should try to highlight what Austin stand for as your theme for the map, try take a look at what ohter mapmakers have done on city maps, not to copy them but find your one style.

Ah, 6th street! Yes, if the main theme of the map is live music, then it would be a sin to not include 6th street. And I guess 4th street as well. Basically, they are both big night club scenes, the main difference is that 4th street is more the adult crowd, 6th street is more the college/ 20 something crowd.ViperOverLord wrote:I think any Austin map that doesn't go into more detail on the 4th avenue (or whatever happening street it was) scene would not be maximizing the feel of Austin. I say that as a person that has not been to Austin but everywhere else in Texas and constantly heard about it.
I did just draw lines in randomly. It was just to get a working draft to show people what it would (sort of) look like. And yes, each terit will have a proper name. Unfortunately, after a bit of research, the bonuses may have to stay directionally named. But the territs will take the names and shapes of the various neighborhoods.shakeycat wrote:What did you base your territory divisions on? It looks like you just drew lines to break things up evenly. Will there be names for each territory in the future? It would be so very dull to keep it all directional.
I don't know how good you are with art work, but yea I'd make those two streets part of the map. Even if you aren't too great, you could do something like the Chicago map did with the rail points. I think it'd be fun to throw in popular attractions though. I like maps that are individualized rather than the prototypical territories. I find that to be rather bland and a dime a dozen.tkr4lf wrote:Ah, 6th street! Yes, if the main theme of the map is live music, then it would be a sin to not include 6th street. I pretty much suck with art work, but I'm trying to learn.ViperOverLord wrote:I don't know how good you are with art work, but yea I'd make those two streets part of the map. The unite the band theme is a brilliant idea. Maybe throw in a manager, a record company, a fan club president, etc and spread them out so that it's not too easy of an objective. Also with the 4th/6th street, I think it'd be relatively easy to do even w/o great art skills. See the chicago map. But even if you don't have great art skills, there are people like Bison King that can draw you a few icons and you can then put em in there yourself.tkr4lf wrote:I pretty much suck with art work, but I'm trying to learn.ViperOverLord wrote:I don't know how good you are with art work, but yea I'd make those two streets part of the map. One idea I've been toying around with, which I think would work great with the live music theme (but in my opinion, would possibly take away from the city map aspect of it), is to have a "Unite the band and book some gigs" victory condition. Have a lead singer, guitarist, bass guitarist, drummer, and keyboardist(?) scattered throughout the map, and have specific night clubs labelled on the map along 6th street and 4th street. The objective would be to hold all of the band and a set number of the nightclubs to win. Of course you could still win by simply killing everybody else. But it would give it one hell of a theme.
Any thoughts on that? Anyone?
After thinking about it, it might be pretty hard to focus on 4th and 6th street. With the map focusing on the whole city of Austin, the streets themselves would be tiny and have hardly any room to put nightclubs on them. To get an idea, they would basically occupy the Downtown bonus area and parts of the central bonus area.ViperOverLord wrote:The unite the band theme is a brilliant idea.
