Some maps were closed down for a while---Das Schloss is a good example of a map being taken down because it turned out to be semi-broken when originally we released it. It took a while for the map to get back into live play.SimplyObsessed wrote:I mean like after it's been made public and been played on, has a map ever been deleted? (I don't mean the seasonal maps!)
In case you were wondering, Andy's talking about the Classic map here. We've even had Classic Art for a while, didn't really like those graphics though. I like the World Cities a lot better.AndyDufresne wrote:You could say that some of the maps that had to be revamped due to legal reasons---those original images were sort of 'deleted' and replaced, but really they were just offered in new graphical forms.

It used to be Middle Earth. Then it got nuked into "Centerscape" in the Canadian Thanksgiving Massacre. Eventually someone made new generic graphics for it and it became Midguard.betiko wrote:where has midgard been taken from? another board game? i never use that map..

its the same bs over and over with this website ... if you piss off an admin then they talk to all their admin buddies and do what they can to punish you even if there is no official record of an incident transpiring ...
Oh well that's good to know! Thanks! I didn't know I had stolen any of the 9 maps I've made for this site, but apparently you know better! Thanks for setting me straight on that!beersurfer wrote: none of this website is original conception ... it is all stolen and reused ...

you're welcome ... if you had anything to do with the actual programming of the game and creation of the concept then you could argue .. map making isnt the same thing ... anyone can make maps once the concept has been stolennatty dread wrote:Oh well that's good to know! where did you even come up with ideas for maps? and how did you approach your design ... did it have anything to do with what others had done before you?natty dread wrote:Oh well that's good to know! Advertisements? Do we mean the ones below the bottom of the Instructions page? Unless you count the JustGiving widgit in the sidebar (which I don't think Lack makes any money from?) the advertisements are pretty well hidden for some reason.beersurfer wrote:someone else created this game ... and this website profits from their creation .. and you help promote them and dont even get reimbursed or compensated for your time or artwork while the owners make bank off the paying members and advertisements ...

Making maps is like making love to a beautiful woman.
I'm awesome at both. Let's leave it at that.
While it is certainly true that CC gameplay is largely based on a known boardgame, arguably a lot of maps on CC are so far removed from the original gameplay mechanics of said boardgame that they can no longer be said to be the same game.beersurfer wrote:where did you even come up with ideas for maps? and how did you approach your design ... did it have anything to do with what others had done before you?natty dread wrote:Oh well that's good to know! you tell me what maps you made and i'll show you what maps you took your concepts from in order to make it work on this site ... and that is exactly what i mean by "it is all stolen and reused" ...

i like the way you focus on specific points while avoiding the direct questions i asked you and then generalizing the world as a whole to reiterate your moot pointnatty dread wrote:While it is certainly true that CC gameplay is largely based on a known boardgame, arguably a lot of maps on CC are so far removed from the original gameplay mechanics of said boardgame that they can no longer be said to be the same game.beersurfer wrote:where did you even come up with ideas for maps? and how did you approach your design ... did it have anything to do with what others had done before you?natty dread wrote:Oh well that's good to know! Yes, all CC maps work within a certain gameplay framework, which includes troops that assault other troops with dice. So ask yourself this - how many games are there which use a) troops that assault other troops and b) dice? I'd estimate it to be around a metric shitton. Are all of those games copies of some other game? Which of them is the original? Who knows.
There's no thing in existence which can claim complete originality. Whatever you create, it has to lean on existing concepts, to provide a frame of reference for it - for example, if you write a poem, it makes no sense unless you use an existing language and alphabet which other people can understand. If you write a song, it leans on existing ideas of musical scales, chords, rhytms, etc. You couldn't create a computer game if someone hadn't invented the computer years ago, and someone else hadn't though of playing games on computers...
In that vein, your argument that this website, or indeed the maps created for playing on this website are "stolen" is nonsensical at best (and at worst, insulting to all the people who spend months of their time to create the maps you also enjoy playing here). Sure, all of those maps use dice, and troops that assault other troops. So do a million other games. And sure, maybe we could create a game that didn't use troops or dice but instead there would be sentient cauliflowers that used 12-dimensional fractal algorithms or whatever, but that wouldn't make sense to most players.
In short, your argument makes as much sense as claiming that chess stole the idea from tic-tac-toe.
are you that dense? ... please start over with your overdramatic avoidance of what is really at hand hereIn short, your argument makes as much sense as claiming that chess stole the idea from tic-tac-toe.
really a million other games use dice and armies to conquer the world ?? if you can name 1 thousand of those ... better yet .. 100 of those ... then i will not make another commentSo do a million other games
have you ever played online Risk by hasbro? ... have you seen all the maps they have? ... do you not think most maps on this site are reiterations of those maps on the hasbro website???While it is certainly true that CC gameplay is largely based on a known boardgame, arguably a lot of maps on CC are so far removed from the original gameplay mechanics of said boardgame that they can no longer be said to be the same game.
