Welcome to the 3rd installment of my NHL Season tournaments! My NHL Season 2 won multiple awards in this year's Primes voting, so here's your chance to be part of the next one!
CONSIDER CAREFULLY BEFORE JOINING! This tournament will require a long-term investment by all participants. Everyone will be playing a minimum of 82 games, with a potential for as many as 110 played by the winner and/or runner-up. As such, this tourney will span much of the calendar year. Also, if you are a high ranking player who is afraid to lose points to lower-ranked players in 1v1 tournaments, then this league probably isn't for you.
SIGNING UP
All participants must select an approved map (more on that below) and an NHL team to represent. All games are 1v1, and each team will be following the full NHL schedule, meaning you'll play 82 regular season games. I will be expanding the playoff format from 8 teams in each league to 12 teams in each league (in order to prevent players from falling completely out of playoff contention by the midway point in the season). Game Load
I will be sending out games weekly. Who you play will be based loosely on each team's actual schedule. I will create 3 home games per team each week. This means each player will play a minimum of 3 games a week, an average of 6, and as many as 10. It fluctuates because of the individual schedules, but all evens out by the end. The regular season will last approximately 14 weeks.
I shall be applying for a General Achievement Medal, to be awarded to the player who wins the President's Trophy, which goes to the team with the best regular season record.

Playoffs
The League is divided into two Conferences, and each Conference is divided into three Divisions. At the end of the regular season, each Division winner within their Conference will be seeded 1-2-3 based on record, with everyone else seeded based on record 4-15. The top 12 teams all qualify for the playoffs. In the Initial Round, teams 1-8 all have byes, while teams 9-12 will play a best-of-5 series. 9 plays 12, 10 plays 11. The losers will be eliminated, while the winners move on to play the 7th and 8th placed teams in the Wild Card Round. The 7th place player will play the lowest remaining seed, 8th plays the other seed. This will also be a best-of-5 series. Losers are eliminated, winners move on to the Conference Quarterfinals. From this point on through the Finals, all rounds are best-of-7. The highest remaining seed will play the lowest remaining seed in each round, and so on.
MAPS All participants must select an approved "home map", from the list below. Maps may only be selected by ONE team. Maps are allowed or disallowed at my sole discretion. Once play begins, maps are locked in, and not permitted to be changed, with the exception of a replacement player; they will be allowed to either play on the map they are replacing for, or select a new available map from the list.Maps

Totally in! Although I'm bummed that you have literally excluded my 9(!) favorite singles maps (Arm's Race, Austerlitz, Treasures of Galapagos, Jamaica, Northwest Passage, New World, Lunar War, Flanders, WWII Poland... what gives?!?!? How did you choose these? Puts me at a disadvantage!).

In short, I choose simple game play maps, so that map specialists can't come in and dominate on a complex map. My theory being that with the playing field leveled with basic maps, the better players will rise to the top.
VicFontaine wrote:Since you (selfishly) stole Detroit, the greatest sports franchise of all time, from the rest of us REAL fans, I'll do everything I can to taunt you.
I'd like to choose the 1996 Colorado Avalanche, and my map will be Imperium Romanum.
I'm going to have to call your Wings Card into question here Vic! You want the stinkin' Avs, you can have 'em!

Don't worry, if it ends up being you and I for the West Finals, I'll throw the game. I couldn't bare to beat the Wings.
Bummer RedBaron just beat me to the Flyers.....oh well
Lets go with Buffalo Sabres, big fan or Ryan Miller!
And since none of my stud maps are here....Classic!
Dice stats are irrelevant. If I roll the same amount of 6's as everyone else, but my opponents role 6's at the same time, that's what matters, what's rolled opposite my dice. How about how many total guys I've won and lost while attacking?
The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.
amazzony wrote:I didn't check but is Calgary Flames still available? If they are, then I'm in with Crossword. If not then you can put me down as a reserve.
They were available - now they're yours! Welcome back our reigning Stanley Cup Champion everyone!
