You're right (Pander) that if the final outcome was 2-1 to Denmark then yes I *think* Germany would be in 3rd place; but thats literally impossible to know. Germany went on to score again so maybe the score would have been 2-2? Who knows?
Yes it is impossible to know, that it why it is my OPINION. We have already made that abundantly clear. In my OPINION, Germany would have been eliminated as I a) believe Denmark would have scored the penalty and b) Germany would have struggled to score in the last 10 minutes.

But yes the team who beat 2 top 10 placed nations in the world and then technically beat another top 10 team, but somewhat controvesially since a penalty was disallowed, is certainly undeserving of advancing (really the only reason I used the "i" word in the first place)...

All I said was that I thought they "should have been eliminated", and have clearly stated "not saying elimination would have been deserved but they would have been out had the ref made the correct call"
What's your problem with that? I think Germany have been the best team in the tournament and it would have been unfortunate for them to go out. But in the scenario where the ref gives a correct decision, the likely result is that they are eliminated. Capiche?
And no. He isn't. With Portugal beating Netherlands 2-1, a 2-1 defeat for Germany sends them out. A 3-2 defeat would have put them through behind Denmark. This is because in this competition head-to-head comes before goal difference/goals scored. Here's why:

7.04 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the
following criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings:
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question; - Teams in question are Germany, Denmark and Portugal. We exclude Holland results as they are 'not in question' having got less points. All teams therefore have 3 points so NOONE wins head to head.
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in
question; - Goal difference for everyone is 0 (Germany 1-2 Denmark (in this scenario), Denmark 2-3 Portugal, Germany 1-0 Portugal) as they have all lost one and won one by ONE GOAL. So this also can't separate them.
c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams
in question; - Here's where we can separate them, BECAUSE Holland matches are excluded from the workings. Germany will have scored 2 goals, Portugal 3 goals and Denmark 4 goals. Hence their positions are decided. If Germany had lost 3-2 to Denmark, they would have had 3 goals from the head-to-heads and only then would their result against Portugal decide the placings.
I didn't expect some sort of inquisition over this. I had an opinion and got called an idiot for it. You then say I'm allowed an opinion on the game but that I'm an idiot for linking that opinion to an incorrect outcome. I didn't.
Head to head table in my scenario where the ref made the correct call:
Denmark 2 1 0 1 4 4
Portugal 2 1 0 1 3 3
Germany 2 1 0 1 2 2
With 10 minutes to go in a game, of course Germany can still go through, but I think that's enough to warrant Germany being 'somewhat lucky' to progress.
