there was nothing even about tonight's game.
we had an impotent france side that repeated the performance from the match against sweden.
and a spanish side that cares more about passing and keeping the ball than it cares about shooting and scoring.
i didn't see even one proper counter attack from the spanish team. each time they had the chance to catch the french on a counter they started with short parallel passes giving the french enough time to regroup. then they'd start passing over and over again 25-30 metres away from goal. boooooooring.

the game was over from the moment spain scored. it was clear then and there that spain will hold on to the ball as much as possible.
compared to how much they hold the ball, the spanish have probably the lowest offensive output. they simply don't create attacks and on the rare occasions that they finally decide to pass forward it often happens that they find themselves 10 metres away from goal and still prefer to pass instead of shoot.

i can't say it's a poor tactic. it obviously isn't since it produced results but i can surely say it's one of the least spectacular styles of play.

despite being totally trashed by the germans, the greeks put out a more spectacular performance yesterday than spain and france did today.

this is probably the most boring game so far.
so many great players on the field and such a crappy show.
i truly hope portugal pulverises spain, and germany does the same to whoever they'll face so we can have a proper show in the final.

PS: is it me or this edition of the euro is one of the most disappointing ever? except for germany and portugal nobody showed class and skill.
It's not just you DiM. I've thought the same. I'm not impressed by ANY team!
England has had lucky bounces not played a single good game, France had one good against Ukraine but sucked in the other three, Germany has looked good up until the game against Greece where they were pathetically ineffective. They were lucky Greece didn't even try to play football. Portugal were also very ineffective against Czech Republic. Spain? Dull boring football creates few chances. Italy? They barely move just stands still in their positions. Netherlands were a joke and my own country Sweden played awful in the beginning. To sum it up:
The teams that appear good are only good when you compare with the worthless teams they're win over. None of these teams would have a chance against Spain four years ago or Netherlands four years ago!

People praise Spain and Barca, but to me they make the games boring.

I'm comparing to how it was a couple of years ago. Everything except the level of play is the same in this time period. They're not more competetive just not as good this time. No one has that "super team" that will just run over whatever team they meet. No one is unbeatable. No team plays really well. This will change however, I'm sure some teams will be stronger when the World Cup gets under way. A lot of teams need rebuilding at the moment. Simple as that.

You probably missed the fact that club competitions are much tougher recently and season are pretty painful with more oil tycoons investing mega cash in football.. and I believe teams are not using their entire powers now. Spain could dominate and win the game with economical effort IMO! They are just spending their energy wisely.

So I guess we can all agree that the games are more boring than they used to be, but there's a logical explanation for it.

Still sucks to watch the games, though. I never thought I'd say this, but I've started to appreciate Ronaldo more and more, because he's one of the only players that show class and skill. He's not the only who has it, but one of the only players showing it. He has my respect for that.

Exactly, this has been one of my favourite euros although it has lacked a few upsets. Last nights game was boring, but that has been a rarity.

Are we watching the most interesting game of the Euro 2012 so far?

Surprising, at least to me, that Italy is handling the English.. this Italy would be great to have in the semifinals..

England need to grab a goal from a break or freekick and then defend like mad.

I think we started brightly, but as always got deeper and deeper.

Agree it is a good game.

The first game to be scoreless through 90 is also (one of) the most exciting game(s) so far.

I love it!

i don't understand why so many of you wrote italy off in this competition ?
especially tonight, playing an england team that didn't show anything on the pitch so far (and still didn't tonight...), and that went through a very poor group in the first round (and i'm french).
They got quality players all other the pitch, even 1st class players that performed very well so far in this tournament (lets say pirlo and buffon to be original). and experienced ones too (some of them are world champions, 2006 is not that far away). Let's face it, english player are good, but are and always have been over estimated.
Anyway, tonight's results is for me well deserved, and i maintain my predictions, italy to win it.
