Why team games are better

This is just 1 persons opinion and it isnt flame wars so dont go harassing me for it here.

Team games are better because they are fair for everybody. Its one team vs. the other team. Its simple and easy. No hidden alliances. You can play with people you know and work together.

Standard games are a whole set of problems for me. It seems that when i start a standard game and let anybody join they instantly target me because i am a colonel, even if i dont have the best position. As soon as i start getting anything together they ally against me to take me down. And while thats part of the game it doesnt seem too fair to me. The only way i will ever play a standard game again is if its a private game and i know the other players.

I have not the same problem. Im a colonel too and I see no one attacking me only because I am. In fact, some players prefer lose to me, so they can save points, instead of lose to a bad ranked player, so sometimes I can get unexpected help to win games.

About the alliances against the stronger, I had some problems with this too, but so Im now only wanting to play escalating for standard games, so I need no permission to win. It works, with escalating no alliance can stop a skilled player, because in 1 turn you kill both enemies

Of course, you can also play with people you know and work together in standard games, the problem is that the alliance is not forever

I see, its always a problem when you cant win and mantain a high score... Good to know you will never play another standard games. Team games are fair to everybody, including players without partners and noobs without team strategy. As you said its simple and easy gain points in team games.

I believe team games are great, I like them too, but in my opinion you are cowards not wanting to risk points in games where your victory chances are less than 70%. Only this.

I like team games too but there are to many stupid people out there.

I have only had two really good partners that I could remember. One of them was my sister, who doesnt like playing team games very much. And the other was some guy who I never played with again.

Someone tried to get a five person allience going (all against one person) in one of my games just because one player had more points than the rest of us. The thing is that the player who tried to do this only had about 800 points at the time and if I had lost to him I would have lost more points than if I had lost to the first guy.

Needless to say, no one accepted.

Personally I like the diplomacy and politics in standard games without set teams. In standard 6 player games even if you have a bad start, or don't do well, you're not always out of it. I had a game a little while back where there were 3 players left, I held europe, and one guy held north america ,and south america, and the other guy held asia, and australia. So I was the weaker player, and in a team game I probably would have been destroyed right off there because like you say it's "simple and easy," but I was able to use diplomacy to play them off each other. Not that I won, but I did drag the game on for about 20 more turns.

I like team games better, because im more of a team player than an individual player...

I don't like playing like 6 person standard games thou, too many people, and if you get a bad draw your screwed cause people just target you.

I like the 3 player and 4 player standard games cause then theres a chance u get a contient, a little bit more strategy involved when everyone has a contient after the 2nd round as compared to everyone scrambling to get one...

In team games you have to work together, even if it means sacrificing your own guys so that ur teammate can gain a contient, or be able to hold one. Also, when you play with people you know, it makes it alot more fun

Marvaddin - You should:

1. Respect Ice's inital post that he wanted this to be a candid discussion.

2. If not respecting that, respect the fact that the flame forum is the proper place for these kinds of comments.

I must say that you're loosing the respect I had for you by doing these petty things. You obvioulsy had some real input in the beginning of your post, why not be satsified by posting that? By incerting the last post, you only look petty and childish. There's no point in keeping a grudge and taking cheap shoots like that.

I mainly play open games rather than team games, and don't believe folk attack me:

a. Because I may have beaten them before.
b. Because they see my rank and want better points, so eliminate me first.

My only true, long term oppononent is the 'kin dice!

My post is part of the discussion. I:

1st, exposed why I dont believe in his excuses to afirm team games are better. They are interesting too, as the standard ones.
2nd, I gave my opinion about this post: you are trying justify your behavior of play 99,9% team games, but to me this only happens (as those deadbeat things) because score is the simple thing you are worried about, and as not skilled in standard (but much better defeating noobs and deadbeats partners), you need play only teams to maintain the high score.
3rd, I didnt disrespect anyone. I only said you dont play standard because you are cowards. If Im wrong, and you arent that worried about score, so how about have at least 40% of standard games? Maybe you can get skilled in that ones, too. But do you have fear of learning to play singles?
4th, prove me wrong and I will shut up.

I simply prefer team games and to prove you are wrong about me only wanting to play newbs and deadbeats challenge me to a game. I will not turn you down.

Ha! I believe you are skilled in team games... as many players too. But in fact, team games are usually easy points because in many games you get poor opponents. If you play team games only against well constructed teams, you maybe will not maintain the scores, and I believe that is what counts to you.

2nd, I never heard about team games in real life risk. I believe you were not skilled in that some weeks (or months) ago. So I believe you should play more standard to becomes better in that type. Im much more experienced in standard games than you probably, and I have same ranking: the problems you listed are not true, so how about get some practice in standard? Maybe you will no more be a loser in them.

Well. To refer to a post you made above. You ARE disrespectful. Keep that in the flame threads.

However, we DO perceive the issue about poorly constructed teams as a problem. You may not have read our call out thread, but that was the reason why we went public. We simply want more challenging games. Besides this we have (since we started playing team games together) tried to ask for rematches whenever we stumble upon good, coordinated team. This has cost us a lot of points, but the pleasure of playing challenging games is more important. Apparently you don't know about this. I don't know if that is because you have never dared signing up for one of our games or because we actually have played you, but you been so amazingly bad that we didn't consider a rematch.

What you think we should or should not do is really not important. If you hadn't noticed, people tend to have their own favorite maps and their own favorite plays. This is something that makes CC great. There're a lot of possibilities. If you enjoy standard games, flat rate on the classic map. Well, please go ahead. But it's really not your own personal taste that determines what is considered appropriate behavior.

Funny thing is that none of the birds themselves bring up the scoreboard. Somehow though, some people seem to be obsessed with our score. Why don't we just leave that aside for a while?

Yes. My game list contains to many games at the moment due to starting to many CCUU games when the map came out. Yesterday I missed moves due to this, so I really need to bring my game list down a tad bit. But Pedro will get his games. We have all accepted and will join when we're all good and ready. However, there really isn't a rush, is it?

Is there a rush? Contrary to what many people write in the forums, EVERYONE on this site has an outside life. With that being said, nothing that happens in CC land will ever (or rather should never) have an adverse effect on our real lives. With that being said, then, no, there is no true rush.. I haven't heard anything recently about the games and happened to notice that you wrote that you like challenging games. I wanted to know why you hadn't joined ours. I figured you were either busy or didn't consider us a challenge. I was just curious as to your reasoning.

Yeah? Who started a discussion to talk about better games? Im not refering only to you, I simply think that there is no excuse to play only team games. This is not to you only or I would send you a pm. Who wants to read can, practice standard games is great, and you becomes skilled in them, although maybe you dont know.

And is really important what do you think about my first post? Or about what forum I should post? Or if you believe I was disrespectful? Is your personal taste that should determine what and where I should post? Put yourself in your place, please.

And if someone is obsessed about your score, well, maybe the guys that deadbeat and say that is not to SAVE POINTS, as I imagine.

Oh, and I was so afraid about face you pigeons that I joined the same triples tournament than you, with 2 girls I had never as partners. Oh, sorry, I believe we will not encounter there

that right there is exactly why I like team risk better.. because its rare and unique and you dont play it everytime you get the risk board out..

I like playing standard games of 4 players and double games with 6 players. I find that i can maximise my points this way as when u win u make more points then 3 player games and triple games and the chance of losing is less than a 6 player game.

My favourite game, however, is a mix of standard and team games. The game started as a triples, but then two of my allies deadbeated and one opponent deadbeated, so it was 2 vs me. But i won so it was all gd in the end.

Marvaddin there are team games in real life. You can play this game so many different way.. I have been playing team games for years online in the zone and in person with some friends. I personally prefer team games, I think there is more stratagy involved, but that is just my opinion.
