At a guess because the majority of the votes came from;

1) Americans - Its got patriotic appeal.
2) People under 20 years old who havent seen most of the other films.

Have you seen it? It's a thousand times better than Bridge on the River Kwai which hardly gets one historical fact correct,I visited it some years back,and the true story would make a marvellous movie.I know 100% accuracy is impossible but to totally change the way the bridge is destroyed..

Yeah, I've seen it. Jude Law and Ed Harris? I really enjoy both actors and the plot was decent but I didn't feel like it was comprehensive or symbolic enough to qualify for the best of all time.

I'm a fan of realistic depictions of war in all its gory details and Enemy does that best for me as well as a cracking plot..

the opening battle and the last battle are pretty good on Saving private ryan, all the inbetween is pretty weak.
The Longest day, Stalingrad, Der untergang and band of brothers is the top tv series no doubt there i think...and their is a new russian made Stalingrad film coming out theatres , supposedly will have some epic battle scenes. arguably there are alot of great war movies out there that could be #1 , could even say theres a best of each war , WW1, WW2, vietnam, afghanistan, theres just so much to choose from, EXCEPT Pearl harbour ,also ben affleck should be banned from ever being in any movie ever again.
