Oh. I thought we were talking in the context of which games are awful.Army of GOD wrote:What? I'm agreeing with you. I love Settlers.Maugena wrote:Hardly.Army of GOD wrote:Settlers should've been moved to number 1 and Diplomacy should've been the replacement for RISK.Maugena wrote:Settlers of Catan ftw!
Settlers is much more like Monopoly than RISK and Diplomacy is pretty much RISK minus the randomness.
Risk is terrible.
I'd like to go over why Risk is terrible and Settlers is great, but I really don't care to waste my time on it.
Yes, but I mean it's only important early on, anyway... So... shrug. Strategize as you will to compensate for the early lack of it, I suppose. (I often times go for an abundance of one resource along with a port that corresponds to said resource.)Army of GOD wrote:Maug, in every Settlers game you play is there always a shortage of brick? That seems to hold true literally every single game.
I saw some guys play Game of Thrones the board game... and it seemed a bit complicated. Didn't feel like trying to keep up or figure it out, unfortunately.Baron Von PWN wrote:Juan_Bottom wrote:Everyone post pictures of your game collections!
Any opportunity for sweet sweet nerd cred. Not pictured is my diplomacy board.
f*ck YOU. AND f*ck THE DICE.Frigidus wrote:There's definitely way too many sheep.Army of GOD wrote:Maug, in every Settlers game you play is there always a shortage of brick? That seems to hold true literally every single game.
It`s a great game. Though I haven`t actually had the chance to crack open my copy of it. I`ve played it on a friends copy a number of times.BigBallinStalin wrote:Ah, I love me some Puerto Rico.

When I first played it, I was upset that I couldn't invest in armies and raid other people's resources.Baron Von PWN wrote:It`s a great game. I`ve played a couple versions. The newer one (tv show tie-in) isn`t as good as the older one.Gilligan wrote:Me and my friends have a massive game collection. They're scattered throughout different houses, so I can't pic them but will try to list later.
Also, Game of Thrones a friend of mine has. I friggin hate it!

Twilight Imperium is awesome. There is a game con at the school every year and I used to always play RPGs. I accidently stumbled into an Imperium game and now that is all I play there every year.x-raider wrote:+1Army of GOD wrote:"Conquer Club is not associated with RISK or Hasbro in any way."
Baron, That game collection looks just right.
Then again you know what they say. Everything's fun and games till someone puts a hotel on mayfair.
Was going to say the same. I can tell he's played the game and know how it usually works. Not sure why he compare it to incest. Incest is loving your family members a little bit too much, RISK is all about hate. Don't see the connection between the two.macbone wrote:So, Luke McKinney over at Cracked.com posted a new article, 6 Board Games That Ruined It for Everyone.
From the piece:
Most of this is pretty spot on. =)Luke McKinney wrote:Risk is worse for family game night than incest. It simulates all the boredom and relentless repetition of trench warfare, but at least people really dying on the Eastern Front wished they were home with their beloved family. You are home, and now you hate the bastards.
The worst part of Risk is victory by excruciation. A well-designed game has tactics and skill building to a climax, a thrilling race to victory, and when someone has clearly won, it's because the game is over. In Risk, someone can win hours before it ends, and they will not let you just admit it and leave. They spent hours carefully planning this victory, and by God you are going to sit there and patiently lose for just as many hours so that they can enjoy it properly. They've turned having fun into a zero-sum game.
This is the same psychopath who can be in control of two-thirds of the entire world and still whinge about how unfair it is that people are ganging up on them. The one who insists that there are more tactics than "Take Australia and try not to succumb to dice-rolling repetitive strain injury."

We used to play Hardball Monotony in University. It was $5.00 a game to play, winner took the pool.Army of GOD wrote:Army of GOD's top five:
1. Settlers of Catan
2. Diplomacy
3. Axis and Allies
4. Scrabble
5. Monopoly
Monopoly is a great game especially if you can manipulate. I imagine playing with BBS would be fun.
