I have 4 songs by Mos Def, and no dude, sorry, I don't listen to UK hip-hop. I try to be diverse and get a bit of everything into my taste.

4 songs aint exactly enough to judge an artist... But yeh respect for not going with the mainstrea, 'rap sucks rock rules' attitude (which you would think by looking at the majority of your favourite bands). I've actually never set up a Last.fm account, and I keep meaning to, so i think I will today!

OK... well you're obviously too busy being closed-minded to read the previous posts in this thread. Carpe Diem by Jehst is a perfectly good example of a rap track which has nothing to do with criminality.

Actually, on re-reading your post I pretty much would like to explode. You have written of an entire genre of music and millions of musicians as criminal, drug-fuelled murderers.

You do realise that I am a Hip-Hop producer, and I have recorded and am close friends with many rappers. None of them have murdered, none of them a 'career criminals' and, for that matter, I challenge you to find a single rap song which actively encourages rape!

MC Hammer, he's a god botherer. Seriously, though, most of the rhymes are an act, a pantomime, a persona that the MC's assume. Dr. Octagon is not really a malpracticing, porn obsessed, back-street butcher. If Eminem actually did do all the drugs he claims to, then he wouldn't be able to get it together to write & record the albums that he has.

For the most part, that whole post was ment to be taken humorously. But still, even lousy hair bands like Europe and Cinderalla have more talent than most rap. As for rapping myself, I'd do it if I felt like violating my vocal cords.

The only reality you'd want me to argue from is your's. Besides, this thread belongs to those who despise rap/hip-hop.

What is interesting to note is how places like MTV asked Megadeth to cencor some of there music videos (A Tout Le Monde, for example), but made NO such restriction on Rap Videos, not even the worst of them.

As for 'mainstream' or whatever, if the 'underground' stuff is so good why as the record sales so low or the live proformances so few? And don't give me some marxist triade about the bourgiese trapping with things in a conspiricy to control the world or whatever.
