[TPA4] Tournament Players Association

Post by chapcrap »

Welcome to another year of the TPA!! Rules and setup and pretty much the same as every other year. Details can be found below. Additionally, the Tournament Directors want to thank barterer2002 and DaveH for the great quantity of work they have done in the first three years of this event. With them and all of the amazing tournament organizers we have something truly fun. Thank you all.

TPA Commissioner: sempaispellcheck - In charge of scoreboard and general inquiries
TPA Asst. Commissioner: mcshanester29 - In charge of TPA4 schedule.
TPA Asst. Commissioner: Clive - Main tournament rescuer

The TPA4 scoreboard can be accessed by clicking this button: Image
TPA4 Changes
  1. First and foremost, the Tournament Directors are taking over the TPA this year and for the future. This is good for all who love to play in the TPA because it ensures TPA will be around no matter what happens!
  2. This is also good, because we're going to be giving away more prizes than in the past! Prizes to be given away are as follows:
    • All top 10 finishers will receive a General Achievement Medal
    • All top 5 finishers will also recieve credits equivalent to the following amounts of Premium membership:
      • 1st Place: 2 years
      • 2nd Place: 1 year
      • 3rd Place: 6 months
      • 4th and 5th Place: 3 months each
    • Additionally, a General Achievement Medal will be awarded to any player who participates in and receives TPA points for ALL 36 TPA4 tournaments
  3. We are running a few less tournaments this year than in the past. We still have 36 tournaments, but a little lower number lets hopefully lets everyone get a little break in the summer.
  4. With the TD's taking over, we'll have three of us working on the event this year. If you are a TO and want to help us by running a tournament, please contact mcshanester29. He is in charge of setting up the tournament schedule.
  5. All TPA4 Tournaments, must begin with the TPA introduction:

    This is a Tournament Players Association Year 4 [TPA4] event, and is governed by its rules, guidelines, and judgments which are detailed here: https://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=195573#p4278332
    All are welcome to join and participate in the association. You do not need to do anything more than join one or more of the TPA4 events that will be announced on Mondays. Check back on the scoreboard to see how you're doing:

Tournament Types and Breakdown
We are trying to ensure diversity in tournaments, so we will try to make sure that we have a variety of tournament types. Here is what we're striving for:
  • 3 Mixed
    3 Quads
    3 Trips
    3 Doubles
    3 Assassin
    3 Terminator
    6 1v1
    6 Standard
    2 Trench
    2 Speed
    2 Random Map
Major Tournaments must require the winning player or team to have a minimum of 100 games in a league type tournament or 100 planned player eliminations in an individual elimination type tournament i.e. 100 individual games; 50 doubles games etc.

Premier tournaments have between 51 and 99 planned games/player eliminations.

Standard tournaments have between 30 and 50 planned games/player eliminations.

Should any tournament not meet the planned number of players joining it, I will either reclassify it or allow it to run as was originally planned. The CC player minimum number restrictions must always be met of course.
Scoring System
Major games will have 2,000 points for 1st place; Premier, 1,000 points and Standard, 500 points.

For all other places, the number of points earned (P) will be determined by the following formula which includes the number of players/teams (n) and the player's position (x). Points will be rounded down.

For Major tournaments
If n>128: P = 2000n/128x
If n<128 or n=128: 2000/x
For Premier tournaments
If n>64: P = 1000n/64x
If n<64 or n=64: 1000/x
For Standard tournaments
If n>32: P = 500n/32x
If n<32 or n=32: 500/x

On completion of their tournament, organizers should just provide the finishing order and the above points will be calculated as part of the master scoreboard updating.
Sanctioning
To be sanctioned as a TPA event, tournaments must:
  1. Follow all CC tournament requirements;
  2. Have no point restrictions (although it may require a premium membership);
  3. Have an organizer who has successfully run previous CC tournaments, is committed to running this one through and has not been replaced as a TO for any tournament during the preceding 12 months;
  4. Allow for at least 32 players (singles) or 16 teams (doubles) or 8 teams (triples/quad);
  5. TO agrees not to send to any sort of "list" for the first 48 hours of sign ups to allow all players fair entry;
  6. TO's agree that for all sanctioned events that players will be accepted in the order in which they sign up regardless of all banned lists that a particular TO may have.
  7. TO's agree not to publish their tournament before before the date specified, which will always be a Monday.
Joining Tournaments
To join any tournament, all players must sign up in the usual manner.
Players do not have to join all the tournaments, as only 24 of the 36 will count for scoring.
Exemptions and Reserves
The tournament organizer and one winner (or individual players of the winning team) of any previous tournament of the same title may be included in the player joiner list. All other spots must be open for sign ups.
Reserve policies are at the discretion of the tournament organizer. Reserves will receive all final points due. Players who do not continue in a tournament will not receive any points.

I have some TPA tournaments where the name changes but are part of a series
  • Doodle Crack - BeNeLux Crack - maybe Cyprus Crack this year
  • Vatican Assassin - CIA Assassin - maybe KGB Assassin this year
would the previous year's winner be eligible for a reserved spot ?

Hi everyone

All of the major tournies are accounted for at this point. Almost everything else is open. If you'd like to organize a TPA4 tourney, please send me a PM.

As chap mentioned, we are screening all threads this year before the tourney gets posted. Please have a draft of your initial post in to me a week before your tourney is to go live so that I can review it.

It's a yearly event comprised of a lot of tournaments. If you want to join, just join some TPA4 tournaments.

The first half of the schedule is set, but as you can see there are plenty of openings in the second set. If you'd like to organize a TPA4 tourney, please PM me or post in thread. I'll be doing the next set of scheduling in January.
