So, I purchased
Banished earlier this past week. I've started up a new settlement, that I'll update in the Longest Thread, Thread. Our settlement is named
'Kessik' -- which is a planet from the Star Trek universe. Another game I have going I'm using Khitomer, another planet from the Star Trek universe. I've decided all settlements I ever play will be named from planets inside the Star Trek universe.
Our first winter was a bit rough, we didn't have any firewood but at least everyone got a home built in time, and we started gathering roots and vegetables in a nearby forest. Eventually, we'll setup hunting and herb gathering as well in this area. We also setup a forester here, so he can replant trees for harvesting, and also to keep hunting and gathering efficient.

Next, we'll want to expand south of the river -- since that is where our real farming, livestock, and settlement will be. You can see I've already marked out a market and some some other industry (blacksmithing, tailoring, and some more homes). And way off to the East, there was a perfect spot to setup fishing on the mouth of the river -- lots of water coverage should mean lots of great fishing. But I don't need to staff it right now, since we are pretty decent on food at the moment, and we have more pressing matters to attend to. Here is a little more expanded view of everything. It'll blue paler -- since I'm viewing from up in the cloud layer.

So our plan is to continue to develop south of the river mostly. You'll notice along the river, there is a trading post I've yet to build. We're playing on Hard, so we didn't start with many families, and we didn't get any initial seeds or livestock, so we'll have to trade our goods for those. Off to the west, I've marked out where a quarry will be, mostly out of the way from my main food production area, but I'll expand some houses out there once we get a quarry up. But for now, we can simply strip mine stone from our main settlement area, since we have to clear it anyways.

That'll be enough for now.
