interesting - has any1 got any ideas why Europe,British Isles and the Middle East are always up there?

I mean graphically KOTM, senate map and chinese chckers are much better but still arent standing the test of time

I suppose its because Europe and UK are familiar to many people, and there are many users from Europe and the UK. I personally hate the graphics on both, especially Europe. The middle east has always had a score of 2. Keyogi's revamp will be interesting to see if its because of the game play / location or the graphics.

I think Europe and British Isles could both do much better if their graphics matched the players enthusiasm.

I think the answer is playability....Im still relatively new to this site and exploring the different map s but the maps I play most often are those you mention...Classic....Europe....World2.1.....British Isles...........I havent played middle east yet but it will be my next game

This brings up a good discussion on what constitutes "PLAYABILITY" i think some of the reasons are as follows..........

1. all maps work very well with 4-7 players
2. most offer small subcontinental bonuses which are easier to conquer and defend
3. all offer good 'surviveability' in the event you get a bad starting position or are nailed with satanic dice
4. they offer good reserve placement where 1 reserve force backs up multiple borders for example a reserve on kenya backs up Sudan , Somalia, and Congo all at the same time 1 reserve force backs up 3 border bonuses

speaking of which these dice need a patch i have noticed that if you are attacking and lose 2 for 3 rolls in a row you will continue to lose 2 as long as you roll....you may be attacking 3 with 100 but if you get that 3rd 2 man loss in a row its better to end your turn.......this also occurs if you are attacking 1 and lose 1 3 times in a row. I have lost 10+ men attacking 1 more times than I can count this way

British isles is one of my favourites and I´m not a Brit.

It´s up there because it´s a jolly good map, simple as that!

Alot to be learnt hear. I dont agree with you Mibi there are far more american and Canadian players than British!!!

But the North America and Canada map aint up there with the British Isles.

But Americans have 2 maps to play on, USA and north America, add them up and its more than Europe or British isles.

Also, I'd bet there are more brittish players than canadians.

I play USA more than i play the British Isles and im British...Reason being is that it has good playability and plays nice. Its also a very quick game with decent graphics

Though wouldn't the problem with this method be that those maps promoting longer games be listed higher? For example, World 2.1 has 110 territories and will have a lot more active games then say Indochina, which only has 32, even if those two have equal popularity.
