I'm not sure if this tourney has been tried before, but one thing I am finding out is that these games just don't freaking end on this map. Even when you stand down, it takes forever. I had one player stand down in a round 1 game and by just deploying and quitting, he built up a 45 stack before i could finish him off (which incidentally still isn't done).
This is obviously a map issue and not an issue for this tourney thread but for the fact that we are playing 15 games on this thing first, just to figure out who we are going to play. That's a whole lot of risk, just to line us up. I think the random draw may be a better option to start this thing.
It's just my personal preference but it's all good. I'm really learning this map
Edit: The game mentioned above, is indeed finished. I won it a couple of weeks ago, along with one other but my record is still 0-0. If there is a problem, let me know.
to be honest, i thought the games would go quicker. usually there are always some games that will drag due to the two players just being matched and not being on the same schedule. i kind of anticipated that. but some of these games are just seeming to last alot longer than expected. i was thinking that half the games for each set would finish within a week. boy was i wrong.
this is also delaying getting the next round of games out. i don't want to bombard everyone with numerous games on the map as well becasue then it takes some of the enjoyment out of the game itself because in order to have a quality game you really have to think these turns through. i know i'd hate to come home after a long day at work and after eating a bite, taking a shower, catching a tv show i had 8 turns of stalingrad to make before i could hit the sack.
so in hindsight, maybe i should have just shrunk the rr to half the games. maybe say you'd play a random mix of only 8 games against unknown opponents. that should still give a pretty decent base of ability at the board to set up a quality bracket.
i've set up other tournaments on this format that have worked pretty well, i think you've even played them. so i was really excited to get a stalingrad bracket going for those that really wanted to test their mettle on the board. i know i like the map and would love to have a go ( but i don't play in my own tournaments to keep the drama out ).
but in that respect as well, i can't just go changing things up now. i kind of have to see the thing through. we are over halfway in the rr, so hopefully the games will start ending sooner rather than later.
also, i am a bit behind and i apologize. i've been meaning to send out the next set of games for a few days now but have been putting it off. i'm kind of on a low cc interest level at the moment, ( this will not last ) i did go ahead and update the scorecard for you as i know there are those that really like to check it. ( including myself, it's how i get my rocks off by running the thing ) i will make it a point to get the 3/4 games out tommorrow night. that way we just have one more set to go and before you know it the bracket will be set.
thanks for the feedback, it's always good to hear, ( good or bad )
