Last night was painful. First of all, I had to share a train with Ranger fans. That was painful. Fortunately all the good fans got off at Jamaca to get the Atlantic Terminal train.
Weber's power-play goal with 2:57 remaining lifted the Canadiens to their fifth straight victory, 3-2 over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night. Paul Byron and Phillip Danault also scored to help Montreal improve to 6-0-1 and remain the only team in the NHL without a regulation loss.
So here is the play by play from the man in the seat.

Before the first period: Interesting Beer (Can't recall the specific ale, but I think it was from the local Sixpoint brewery) - Cuban Sandwich

Before the second period with the 0-0 tie. Dewar's and Water. (Hey I'm taking the train home.)

Before the third period with the 1-1 tie. This ice cream "smores" thing.
Image

Not having to suffer through overtime (or in other words 30 extra minutes of sleep) PRICELESS, although the loss was a bummer, I thought we were going to get massacred.

Image

Let them have their fun while lasts, eh?
Montreal came out more aggressive in the second period and outshot New York 12-5. The Canadiens took a 1-0 lead early in the middle period as Brendan Gallagher's wrister from the right side was stopped by Greiss, but the rebound went past New York defenseman Travis Hamonic in front and Byron fired it in at 3:10.
P.S. got some chocolate on my Islander's hoodie. Time to put it in the washer.

Wings have not lost since winning the belt! I even got to see Jimmy Howard shut out the Sharks, which was doubly good for me as I also started Howard on my fantasy team. Tough matchup tonight at St. Louis. Scoreless with 2:20 left in the 1st.

Do you think the NHL is ready for an openly gay player this season?

Wings tied it on a pretty goal from Frans Nielsen. We're in the 3rd now; can Detroit pull this out??

That wasn't me trolling BTW, it was just that the bits and pieces I'd heard about the NHL made it seen like it was a sport that was moving toward players being open.

Only if he actually plays the game well. It's not like football where the quarterback constantly sticks his hands under the ass of the center.

Now if he were an openly gay enforcer would the world be ready for him?

Why are you even engaging this particular troll? Ignore the troll; maybe it'll go away.

Urgh, fine- here're the articles I read and discussed with a few people-

Pride Tape brings the NHL one step closer to its first out player

Gary Bettman says NHL is ready for its first openly Gay player

Seemed like an interesting topic for the new season. Openly gay players are coming, and this may be the season it happens.

Not talking about it at all, or even dismissing the idea as trolling seems a little backward. Eventually a player will come out, and the league, and indeed the fan base will have to deal with that.

There's really a limit to the stick your head in the sand mentality.

The Red Wings have finally lost. Boston got them tonight, 1-0, and in the process won the belt. Boston's first chance to defend it will come on Tuesday, at Florida.

I guess never.

For some reason I always thought they did, but research shows they didn't.

So on Wednesday, the Wings get a chance to win the other belt. Not like it's going to be a tough game for them either.

Tonight there is too much going on.

We have the Annual Belt is being played with Philly at NYI. It probably won't be a great game but it is for the belt.
Also the Perennial Belt is Bruins at Lightning. Finally the Leafs are visiting the Sabres, who have a 3-game winning streak while the Leafs haven't had a W-streak all season.

There are 2 regular season championship belts. They are only decided during the regular season, exhibition and playoffs don't count. The annual belt starts with the Stanley Cup winners every year while the Perennial belt goes back to the 1930s or something. Every game that the team with the belt plays is for the belt. It's an imaginary title and of course I love it because imaginary titles are the only thing the Leafs ever win.

I write 2 previews every week:

Looks like that long winning streak for Detroit was an aberration. They just blew another 3rd period lead in a loss to Winnipeg. That's 4 straight losses.

Best parking? Oh wait, that spot is for one car only and it has reservations for the entire season.

As you can tell from the thread, the Islanders suffer from being a Long Island team. The Rangers are New York City. Brooklyn could be an exception because they fashion themselves as "Long Islanders" but that's going to take a generation. In the mean time, it's very far for the average person in Suffolk Country. Even the train ride is an hour or more one way. That is the paradox that is Long Island. (It's really long.)

Thanks for the links! Islanders beat Vancouver 4-2 last night. Had to watch it from the cell phone during barbershop rehearsal.

So the last time Detroit won in Wells Fargo - Beverly Hills Ninja was the number 1 movie.

And then they won tonight and some bland piece of Hollywood crap is still the number 1 movie. Literally nothing has changed.
