People use analogies to illustrate points all the time, and it's understood that analogies are strictly limited in scope. I used the wife-beating example to illustrate the fact that one shows concern about the suffering of another and tends to want to help. I didn't at any point say that betiko's suffering was or would be equal in magnitude to the beaten wife. Obviously the one is much more serious than the other. I didn't need you to explain that to me. An analogy can be useful, without the magnitude of the situations being comparable. If you didn't filter everything I say through your unrequited hate, I wouldn't have to explain this.

It's not hate. I think you're a good guy, but the examples you use are poor at best. Analogies are just fine, they illustrate a point. I use them all the time. But they have to make sense contextually. If you use a bad example, it lets assholes like myself make you look like an even bigger asshole. And the analogy should be somewhat comparable. If I tell my wife to go make me something to eat, and she tries to compare that with being a slave in the American south circa 1803, wouldn't that be a gross overstatement and racially insensitive? Even if she's doing it in jest, the joke is in very poor taste. Too frequently this is what you do, and it detracts from your actual point.
