unlike luxdelux we have certain standards here.-=LRK=- wrote:I have a few map ideas that I wanted to work on to contribute, but it seems to me, that greater care is involved with making these maps perfect before anyone even has a chance to try them out. I would love to see a Beta Map section I can play from because, I gotta tell ya, the map choices are terribly limited as it stands. I see maps in development I would never play, and also maps I would love to try out right now.
I just got here, and I hate to rock the boat, but Lux Deluxe has 1,2,3,4,... 500 bajillion maps to choose from. http://sillysoft.net/lux/maps/pictures_all.php I don't know whats good, bad, or indifferent, but, wow.... that's a lot of maps.
All I am saying is, i would rather get a map into play with cheesy graphics when the map is playable. Let the pretty artwork and super details follow with later updates.
actualy you're wrong. some people actually test the maps. i have over 50 games on my AoM map and coleman has playtested several maps. ofcourse it could be done much easier on the site then the way we do it (by printing the map and playing with real dice and troops)KoolfuZ wrote:I would love to see some kind of beta testing for maps. As it is now, 3/4 of foundry discussion is about appearance -- and what little consideration is given to gameplay is purely theoretical, since we have no way of testing the maps. It would be great to be able to play unrated games on maps in development, so flaws could be spotted before the map goes public, or even before the graphics are very far along. Beta testing could be restricted to premium members, or even to a private club, and only on the condition that players leave feedback. But there ought to be some way to test gameplay.
