Nine Men's Morris

Post by docchaos »

Although I'm new here, I've been thinking about making maps. What do you think about using a Nine Men's Morris board as a map.
Every intersection is a country, every mill is a continent. Of course with each continent consisting of only 3 countries the bonus for each one should be at most 2. The only drawback is that there are only 24 countries, I don't know if this is enough. Is there any rule of thumb how many countries a map should at least have?

I'd say 24 countries is defintely too few. Two boards along side each other might work.
Taking an enemy on the battlefield is like a hawk taking a bird. Though it enters into the midst of a thousand of them, it pays no attention to any bird other than the one it has first marked.

Why exactly is it apoor idea?

Scorba, thanks for the picture, forgot to post it myself. Yeah, two boards alongside each other might work, gotta figure out, how I'll connect them. However it doesn't make sense if most people don't like it.

Did you look on the link to Wikpedia?

It's fucking terrible to look at, and is so symetrical it won't work.

So much utter crap is suggested in this forum, I rarely come here anymore... [cheers from everyone else no doubt]

Boards side by side with a portal...or maybe two one-way portals, from the inner ring of one to the outer ring of the other, or vice-versa.

This is probably needless to say, but I'm in favour of the idea.
