Laugh at small contractors when they want to get paid and bet on the fact that they can't afford the legal fees to fight. Bribe state officials to look the other way while financial oversight rules for casinos are ignored and assets are back-doored. When all else fails, just declare bankruptcy and screw everybody at once. Then use your connections to start right back up again. Textbook system-milking.

So when is it smarts or intelligence? Maybe he masted the system. Keep in mind no one is ever forced to do business with Trump. No city is FORCED to to give taxpayer subsidies. Um... I'm not sure either of those are true. Kaepernick was a good passer at some points in his career and most teams want to have at least a marginally mobile QB (Tom Brady being the exception that proves the rule). Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Alex Smith, Carson Wentz, DeShaun Watson, Marcus Mariotta... all successful "running" QBs that are also good passers.

Do you know Kaepernick's religion? What if it involved a sincere belief in social justice? What if he believes in social justice with or without a religious motivation? Your argument relies on him knowing that he'd get an endorsement long after he was blacklisted for peacefully protesting.

Like I said, I'm fully supportive of Colin Kaepernick's protest. In fact, I've actually participated in BLM protests. I'm just disappointed and, frankly, shocked by your comparison and what that shows about you - to favorably compare an arguably washed-up football player being paid millions of dollars by a major corporation (with questionable manufacturing practices) to an in-his-prime boxer who had sincerely held religious beliefs but had to deal with potential jail time and a lack of career to support those beliefs... it's pretty disturbing Sym. And then you go and throw in the "but Ali made millions in 2006!" factoid as if that was relevant. Disturbing.

The difference to me; Ali as you said had to deal with potential jail time and was blacklisted in his prime.The reason his name resonated even till today is because he overcame this adversity and went on to become champ in spite of all those standing against him... Kaepernick only has a nike deal because of his protest which started in the sunset of his career in the NFL. He was not even a real first string quarterback when he began his protest, he had been previously but a 3 years trend of getting worse made him a backup player. The first game he took a knee he wasn't even in uniform, the team already had a started and a replacement for the starter ready to go ahead of Kap. Like greek I support the idea of protesting cops shooting unarmed black children, but I really do have a hard time supporting Kap getting rich off this protest. I hope he donates virtually all of this to charity, and I hope the Clevland Cavs make him their 3rd string QB or he runs as a backup in the CFL just to shut everyone up who keeps saying how good he is, he really isn't and comparing him to Ali is really quite insulting to the Ali.

His record in those 11 games? 1-10!!!! Did he get paid for playing in those games/that season? Yes. Should he be guaranteed a spot on an NFL team the next season after going 1-10 with a QBR under 50? Fucks no!

I wouldn't begrudge Kaepernick for making a few bucks doing an advertisement, after all, he's gotta eat. I wouldn't begrudge anyone for making some money. I bet there isn't anyone here working for no moneyz.

However, he's burned his bridges as a quarterback. When you sue your potential employer and then wonder why they won't hire you, then ya are a few lights short on the Christmas tree. He's a mediocre player at best and he's gonna find it's real hard to prove collusion or blacklisting by the NFL teams. There are a million and one reasons any of them can give as to why they passed on signing him. Legally he's on the losing side of that case. But, he's welcome to try as is his right.

The ancillary though is worth quite a bit of money. This Nike deal is proof of that. So he's got a plan, but he'll never play in the NFL again, and that's just fine as well. I'm just not sure how good that plan is long term though. Who knows, maybe it'll work out in the long run for him. He's not unlike Trump in this regard, Kaepernick is selling an image, he is a brand unto himself. He has carefully crafted this image, nurtured it, hit the right emotional notes, expounded on universal themes that resonates with we mere carbon units. There are plenty of people who fall for this type of marketing. At this point he's not much more than a walking commercial, and that's ok because everyone has to make a living.

What's interesting to think about, if the scourge of racism is finally put to rest once and for all, then all those who profit from race discord lose their monetary incentive. This of course gives credence to the idea that those who profit from racial disharmony have a vested interest in keeping racial disharmony going. It's against their own financial livelihood to actually stamp out racism for good. It's kind of a big circle jerk and the poor bastards who are holding the toast are the people who buy into this type of marketing. So...soggy toast anyone?
