Sunday Post - Take CC to church

Post by what,me worry? »

So provocative yet, true

"The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose."

Nonsense. The Church exists to create the world's most beautiful pieces of art and architecture. All the fairy tales about Christ and whatnot are just flavour additives.

Nonsense. The Church exists so that some men can control the actions of other men and enrich themselves from the labor of other men.

You're thinking of The Bank.

Nope. I’m thinking of the Church. Though my comments can also be applied to the Government.

Some banks serve that function, but that was not their intent. They may enrich themselves from the labor of others... but they don’t control actions.

Maybe not their originating intent, but it didn't take long for them to discover their power. By their third generation, the Medicis found out that a bank can make kings and popes do its bidding once they've gotten in debt. Ever since then (half a millennium) banking has been one of the primary levers of power.

Banking is typically a tool of the elite... not the genesis of the elite.

The church is a private entity which does community, "good"

Now, does it do community good as well as I would like or you would? No, because it's their bag; it's their thing. They believe they're doing maximal good and that's enough for me

Funding food, medical, educational, rehab, and other community programs at low cost or free of charge is good. We want to give people chances to receive a level of care when they otherwise wouldn't have access to it

Simply put, if you were hungry and needed a blanket, you'd be happy for a pastor to hand you one with a smile on his face and say a prayer with you because he truely believes he is asking his God to bless you

Your retorts don’t make any sense.

Please continue to try to insult me and call me “simple minded”. It’s funny... and from you it’s a compliment.

I could argue that if you weighed all the “good” done by “the church” since it’s inception... and put that against all the “bad” done by this same entity... the bad would outweigh the good.

Of course I could argue the reverse opinion too.

(A lot depends on how you define “good” and “bad” in this context.)

The point is... if you only think the church has done/will do “good” you’re a lost case and already in the bag.

Why don't we discuss real time

The church today is doing good. Church machine seems to be working less wonky and no Inquisition resurgence *rubs church machine*

We should build upon success of our current infrastructure....am...I ...making...sense......???

I like broad, sweeping, completely subjective statements.

The NRA today is doing good. Support them.

By “real time” I assume you mean “present day” or “modern times”.
I believe European History from the Fall of Rome till the Present Day is equally “real”.

In the present day the Roman Catholic Church makes a regular habit of hiding and supporting child molesters.

In the present day the Roman Catholic Church tacitly supports sexism as it discriminates against women, not allowing the to become Priests.

In the present day the Roman Catholic Church is opposed to the proposition that women should control their own bodies, and would force women to carry unwanted children/fetuses to term. (Obviously your view on this position would determine whether you think this is “good” or “bad”... I’m not arguing a specific view here, I’m simply stating that from the view of Abortion Rights Activists this would be a “bad”.)

... outside the actual “Roman Catholic Church” we could find other “bad acts” perpetrated by extreme Christians in what they believe is the “Name of God”. We can go here if you want, but I think finding three easy ‘bad acts’ the Roman Catholic Church currently engages in is sufficient to prove the point that “the Church” does not exists solely to “do good”.

So in conclusion it really depends on your view and situation in life.

If you are a poor or low income person who is religious and in the US, and you get food from a Church Run food pantry, and you believe we should end abortion... well you’d say the “Church does Good”.

If you live in a drought plagued area of Africa and Catholic Missions brings you food and medical supplies... you’d say the “Church does Good”.

If you were an Altar Boy who was diddled by a Priest, and you told a bunch of people but no one believed you, not even your parents... and then you found out the Priest was moved to another Parish and he did it again... I don’t think you’d agree with the first two people.

Not every church has pedophiles

Not every church runs well or does community good

The premise of church is suppose to be community good

Think of it like a franchise. Not all McDonald's are the same level of excellence but you get why it was founded. At some point the McDonald's may serve. Child porn out of its drive through window and sell meth in it's bathroom

Your argument is, there are McDonald's who engage in devious behavior therefore McDonald's is bad and shouldn't serve hamburgers

or you could just give to the red cross and other neutral entities that just do good for the sake of doing good...
not by threatening that an old bearded guy is looking at you from his cloud writting down what good and bad stuff you're doing, and that when you die, the ballance will make you go either to disney land or to atlantic city

Churches are self funded

Yes! Donate to humanitarian groups

If you are part of a church, do good along side of them

In no way should anyone speak negatively about people gathering together to do societal good

There is an irony to this. It is subtle and beautiful at the same time. Most people think of the word with the lower case (and not definitive) as a building, but Capitalized and with the definite article, it represents the entirety of believers; the community of Christians as a whole, or sometimes just the clergy. "If they" ... the people, not the buildings.

My argument is multi fold and clearly beyond your comprehension.

You said “the church does good”. I refuted that.. and now you’re argument is “the church was established to do good, and some churches do do good.”

It’s be funny if I thought you would understand how you’ve failed here... but as it is it’s just sad.
