I am deeply ashamed, as a southerner, of racism here in the south. Believe it or not, there were southerners back then who despised slavery and fought against it. My great grandfather in Kentucky had run ins with the KKK (my grandmother wouldn't give me the particulars), and in my house as a child, i would have received a serious ass whipping if i had said the n word. I wouldn't have thought you were the type of person to stereotype people so blindly. Btw, my daughter's mother is classic New Orleans Creole - French, Spanish, African, and Houma Indian. You are evidently under the mistaken impression, as are many others, that the civil war was about slavery. Slavery was used by the Federalists as an emotional issue to further their cause, but the real issue was secession. The U.S. Constitution clearly stated that "if any of these 13 colonies decide to secede from this union, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO SO (caps mine)". Our constitution was dishonored and dismissed, as it is today, and that flag is meaningless without it.s.xkitten wrote:oh really...so what about blacks rights? they still just a piece of property to you?b.k. barunt wrote:Independence day? Up until the civil war maybe. Our constitutional rights were raped at that point (i speak as a TRUE southerner), and that flag became the flag of the oppressor.
