Are you a Patriot or not?

Post by muy_thaiguy »

I was reading the 4th of JUly post and some of the things intrigued me there, like wondering who considers themself a patriot and who doesn't.
"Eh, whatever."

Patriot isn't a common word in Britain. It's more of an American term.

Enough about bean bags and truth. Nope, I'm not a patriot, I don't really like the English government, legal system or people.

The actual land is bloody amazing though, places like the Lake District, Peak District and Cornwall make me happy to live where I do. So technically I'm patriotic about the geography, not the nationality.

Too complicated to know. Everybody thinks that what they are doing is for the greater good, so anybody doing extensive work for their country considers themselves a patriot. Doesn't matter if they are soldiers or rebels, if they do what they think is right then they are, in their heads, patriots.

Patriotism is a silly thing that the powers that be invented to make more money for themselves. By dividing up land and forcing labels on people the powers can tell their subjects that they should kill for their country to steal the other countries resources.

Honestly... whats the difference between a German and a Frenchman? Nothing really, other then the labels that they put on people. It was these labels that allowed a few men to manipulate the population that allowed the many wars between the two countries. What the hell does a farmer or a machinist care about the differences between France and Germany? Nothing, the Farmer, the Machinist, the Worker cares nothing about the differences. Workers care about family and the good life, not the differences that the powers that be say exist that lead to hate and violence.

The powers care though... they care because they can make more money off of war or patriotism...

The next evolution of mankind will be the elimination of borders and patriotism and nationalism... these things are meaningless and only lead to the destruction of the soul and of people.

There's another side to this.. One of the cool things about the modern world is the ability to travel a relatively short distance and be able to immerse yourself into a completely different culture.. to experience a different way of living than your own. If borders were to dissolve, so would this ability.

My point is that if all the smaller cultures in the world end up being assimilated by the larger ones, well, I think that would be a shame.
