The reason many people don't have wet dreams is because they masturbate. Hold off for a month or so, and chances are you will have one. One way or another, the semen will get out without your help, generally at night (though not necessarily with a dream.

Second, I don't think anyone has thumped ANY Bibles. I'm pretty sure that someone simply asked if masturbation was contrary to the Bible, and some people answered. I think you'll find that the atheists who have been posting in this thread for awhile (hecter and Andrew) haven't been offended or annoyed by this in the least bit. I'm really starting to pick up some unfounded hostility here.

And third, masturbation is the SIMULATION of stimuli which elicit a pleasurable response. So of course it's going to be pleasurable. You can't base an argument on that.

Finally, if you're going to make an argument based on the theological grounds of "what God believes", it helps to believe in God in the first place, or at least to have a rudimentary understanding in Christian scriptures. Since I don't think you do (I may be being presumptuous), your point won't get you very far- if you're Christian, scripture indicates that masturbation is bad. If you're not Christian, then it's not bad I guess, and probably even has health benefits.

You accused me of bible beating, when I was never advocating the Bible in any way, shape, or form. A question was raised: is it within biblical limits to masturbate? My answer was a simple, unbiased fact: no. I could be an atheist with a knowledge of the Bible and give you the same answer. That is not bible-beating, it is fact-stating.

I never stated that I was speaking scientifically, I was answering a question about the Bible, and in no way advocating it one way or another.

Lay off. There's no need to pounce on me (or my religion for that matter) just for stating a fact.

Actually, you provided evidence that emissions, broadly, have benefits. How those emissions occur wasn't actually mentioned by the studies, only by the context, and "proof" is notoriously hard to come by.

That was never really my point. It was that the Bible says it's wrong. Like Mr. Nate and I have said throughout this thread, though, if you want to talk about whether the Bible is a valid source for moral authority, this is not the thread to do it in.

I believe the bible has proved plenty of things. None of them are scientific as we think of science, but it has helped to prove plenty about languages and past cultures, as well as the mindset of our ancestors and other social aspects of our past.

There are verses which talk about not calling another person a fool, and using gentle words, but i think even more important is that fact that some people actually do find cussing offensive, so while i might not have a problem with it, for the sake of others i wont curse.

This is the thing about the Sola Scriptura doctrine (the one which many protestants follow which states that something is only valid if it is in the Bible)- it gets blown way out of proportion.

Something doesn't have to be specifically forbidden in the Bible to be a sin- even most sola scriptural protestants will tell you that. Now, I don't personally think that cussing is a sin in itself- it's the intention behind it and the situation you're in. If you're cussing AT someone, then you're clearly breaking "love thy neighbor as thyself", not to mention the whole "don't be angry or say to anyone 'you fool'" thing (paraphrasing here).

It's the same deal with masturbation. No, it's not specifically mentioned. But it goes along with things which ARE specifically mentioned (in that case, lust).

There are only a couple of places right off hand that I can think of:

1) What goes into a man's mouth doesn't defile him, but what comes out
of it does.

2) Do not use the lord's name in vain.

But there is no specific line that says not to curse. There is lots about treating others with love and kindness though. Cursing, in my opinion, is really more of a social more' than a religious one.

Hey just to let you know... I asked my pastor of a church I once went to about the Word f*ck.

He told me, that it is not in the bible... But a Christian is suppose to be a witness of Christ to others, and if you got profanity coming out of your mouth people will not tend to take you serious.

I hate how people automatically assume that when you're of a particular religion, you're mind is tunnel-visioned ONLY to that religion.

I've read plenty of articles, books, etc. about church history, sex, etc. from various sources. I'd appreciate it if you'd give me the benefit of the doubt.

And from your post I'm going to assume that you're Christian. How, then, do you feel that masturbation doesn't break Jesus' command against lust?

So, why is it a sin?
