very specific issue with Europe Map

Post by PirateSamurai45 »

Hello all,

small but significant issue with the "Europe Map".... the line indicating a connection from Albania to Sicily is covered by the circle indicating the number of armies in albania. can this be adjusted? I played this map for the first time recently and did not find out until it was too late that albania and sicily are connected. anyone else have this issue?

Wow. I had to go back and look at that. I never noticed that before. EVER. And for the same reason. I'm surprised that got through the forge. Thank god no one else noticed that in the games I played...

The connection problem has been well known for some time. The map is in need of a revamp, but nobody has stepped forward to volunteer. It would also take a revamp to possibly solve the Croatia/Yugoslavia debate, but that would be up to the original cartographer if it could be changed or not.

People need to remember that the foundry is constantly evolving and changing. Standards are a lot higher now that they used to be. Even the Classic map has it's problems with graphics and missing connections.

Yep, the connection was the main problem i had with this. Also, the mountains (I thought they look like rips instead of mountains)

I'd contest the need for revamp, it looks pretty good at present and is a great play

How much would need to be done in the revamp?

If you can't contact the original map creator, i am considering volunteering for the revamp.

Since i dont have enough time do make a full new map from scratch (XML, borders, countries, etc.) , i think doing a revamp and improving an existing map would work for me. I have improved my photoshop skills a lot and I would be willing to revamp the europe map.

@ Keyogi or andy: if you want me to revamp, just reply with more detail of what would have to be done. I am pretty sure i will be able to revamp the map and make it better.

That is why i want to know how much needs to be done.

After i find out how much needs to change I will make a definite decision.

Because im pretty sure that i will be able to do a lot of work on this if i have to, I just want to know how much there is.

Europe is fine for the most part. It needs some new army shadows, XML tweaks and new mountains. If anybody wants to attempt a revamp or even just a touch up, announce it in the Revamps thread.

It also needs that arrow changed. It always disturbed me how out of place that arrow is.

Agreed. The arrow was added after the fact. Originally it was a "secret" attack route but people complained.

I never knew Italy connected to Albania either. Should definitely be fixed.

If Europe is to be revamped it should only be some minor tweaking. I love that map.

Ma daj! We're not gonna start this again! Though I agree the whole thing should not be called Croatia, it certainly should not be called something that doesn't exist anymore!

Why not?

The map is not contemporary.. seems like it´s set sometime between 1950 and 1990.

ivo im from croatia and don't agree with you.simple there should be notice on the map that it represent pre-90's political situation.it's evident since germany is still separated on eastern and western part and there is czekoslovakia on the map (though wrongly named slovakia).or to put aside any political implications simply rename croatia to western balkans.

If you put Yugoslavia and Chehoslovakia, you dont get any political implication, you only get map who represent europe from 1945 to 1989. With Yugoslavia name you dont favorite any of 6 former republic.

fair enough. ukraine will become Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, among others.

lets just say things may have to be changed, regardless of one's nationality.

AND yugoslavia (both name and country) would still exist if it favored all 6 former republics.
