and no, there is no way to be called a manly man if you commit suicide, so i reject the question entirely.
Also, are there any Japanese people in here offended by all the people saying suicide is a weak thing to do? They obviously don't care if they've dishonored their families.
And at the end of this period of questioning, sometimes a person consigns themselves to oblivion. Too high a price for enlightenment, I say.vtmarik wrote:Camus once said that the question "Should I kill myself?" is the most pivotal question one can ask, philosophically speaking. It's the ultimate form of self-examination of one's beliefs, concepts, experiences, etc.
If I had a choice, fire and a big noise. But I'd rather be that one very mad trooper who survived the barrage and strangled/knifed/bayoneted all the miserable bastards in the opposing trench. Again, If I had to go: the faster, the better.areyouincahoots wrote:I would agree that it is cowardly to commit suicide for no other purpose than getting away from one's hardships and that it is both manly and honorable to put yourself in a dangerous situation for the sake of another (i.e. one soldier jumping on a grenade to save others) or to kill yourself because of celebrated tradition in proper situations(i.e. sepukku).
but...if someone was dumb enough to want to commit suicide and wanted to do it in a "manly" (i.e. painful) way my vote would be to be hanged, drawn and quartered!
I agree almost completely. Sepuku (shoving the blade into your belly, then cutting up and to the side in an inverted L shape) was done not for selfish escape, but to preserve honor of one's family. I have a very high threshhold for pain, as i have experienced quite a bit, and there is no way i could summon up the courage to do something like that. Suicide as we know it in our culture is selfish and cowardly.bcopeland08 wrote:Seems to be a trick question as there is nothing manly about committing suicide.

While they can be amusing ways to pass time when you are bored, I'm hard pressed to call any problem that I can solve in my head "fun." And that accounts for 95% of all Sudoku.Skittles! wrote:Why people chose Sudoku is beyond me, it's so damn fun.

Dishonor..... More 'honor' could be reaped by fighting and not giving up. Fight tooth and nail, make the other poor bastard die instead (living to fight another day and do it again), don't cry and suchlike.
