Don't jump the bandwagon just yet. I'd say at least 90% its a hacker. Seen it countless times, they jack MSN accounts forum accounts etc. etc. and tell people there ethier dead or hospitalized.

Conversation logs can be taken regardless of if you choose the option with your Messenger. Hacker may have infiltrated turned on an option logged everything for a while, got the information and decided to strike after he had what he wanted to f*ck with people. Because thats exactly what happened to me and one my best friends Kirstie. She suddenly vanishes for 3 weeks, then someone is pretending to be her tells me she was in the hospital for that time, was raped etc. Turned out to be a hacker, guy knew everything about me.
