Almost...
That video was sweet, thanks.
yes he did. He ran as a Libertarian in 1988.xtratabasco wrote:no hes never ran before.muy_thaiguy wrote:Only problem I have with him, is that last time he ran as a Libertarian, now he is running as a Republican.
He is a Doctor who is also a Congressman on the Republican ticket, but he is a Constitutionalist, the only reason he ran on the Republicans ticket was that he couldnt win running on the Constitution Partys ticket. duhhh
I am as far left as you can possibly be on civil liberties and as far right as you can possibly be on economic freedom. Give me a libertarian view and I will give an argument for you.Nephilim wrote:i'd like to hear some of the wannabe libertarians in this thread make even one decent argument for their position.....
You sound like the awesome current opposition to any kind of good change. Instead of reasoning all you can give is crappy insults and ram your opinion in their.ksslemp wrote:Ron Paul is a complete CLOWN!
its a little known fact that ron paul only has one cranial hemisphere, because of this it is impossible for him to separate fact from fiction.
I'd vote for a mechanical Hello Kitty doll before i would vote for ron paul.

Here are some controversial ones for you to ask me. It would take forever to mention every libertarian view and defend them so just ask me the ones you want to know about.

-I am against child labor laws, wage discrimination laws etc..
-I am against environmental regulation laws
-I am against the Congressional Gold Medal

Government has only TWO purposes.
1. Basic protection from foreign militaries.
2. Third party enforcement of contracts as a state in the Weberian world is merely what entity has a monopoly on legitimate violence in a given geographic region and contracts often have "moral hazard" problems thanks to transaction costs and a world of imperfect information so a social mechanism needs to be in place to enforce private contracts between individuals as not all arrangements are adherent organizations (self-enforcing), therefore we need contractual arrangements which can give us more complex contracts between individuals where we can trust that both sides will honor it due to a "state" which can impose a significant cost on an individual so as to make it in his interest to honor his agreement.

I don't care what you think, he did run for President as the nominee for the Libertarian Party in 1988. Have you ever watched him on TV, they always bring it up. Here is a Wikipedia article on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_paul#1 ... l_campaignxtratabasco wrote:Cronus wrote:I am as far left as you can possibly be on civil liberties and as far right as you can possibly be on economic freedom. I believe that sums up my feelings pretty well on Ron Paul also. And to those that think Ron Paul would dismantle the United States, just remember that he still has to follow laws to do that. If Bush had his way, all abortions would be illegal...but as you see, that has not happened...why? Because Bush hasn't found a way to lie to us about abortions. So any argument about Ron Paul getting rid of Public Libraries is a mute point.Harijan wrote:As for the original question,
Paul is not so bad as politicians go. He is better than most in this go-around because,
1. He knows what he actually wants to do as president (as opposed to just wanting to become president cause it seems like a cool job).
2. He can articulate what he believes is best for the country.
3. He has a general plan as to how he is going to reach his goals once he becomes president.
Like most politicians, I agree with some of his ideas, but not all of them. He has some interesting international policy proposals that seem rather insane, but his general idea of withdrawing from international efforts until we get our own house in order is very appealing to me.

you mean re-election. The incumbency rates for the House is like 95% and for the Senate is closer to 98% over the past 50 years. Most Congressional turnover is due to retirement and a battle for an open seat such as what will happen come 2008 for Senator John Warner's Seat in VA.Coleman wrote:He sure did.I loved it.
Did you know everyone that was interviewed by Colbert won their congress elections?
