Why?

Is just a brain, which happens to be covered in a large amount of blood.

Just like nude breasts, it's perfectly natural.

hecter you're comparing apples to oranges here.... pornagraphy isn't allowed by the forum guidelines, which covers avatars. nowhere in the guidelines that I recall, does it prevent images such as brains, or eating babies or whatever. if you'd like to suggest a change to that policy, feel free to make a suggestion.

A picture of a man with a septic penis bathing in vomit. Fact.

So if I want something done should I make a new abuse report topic. Appeal directly to lack? Go on strike? What? :x

I figure if I make another abuse report topic it will just get moved back out here. :x

The ridiculousness of the way this whole issue is being handled astounds me.

hmm.. yes i agree but that's a bit like 'the taste of victory' you can use almost anything in this metaphorical sense.

it's why i went back to the etymological root of the word; from the Greek pornographos ; porne = prostitute, graphos = writing.

I 'think' a true definition has to at least include something sexual in content .. As multifaceted as i am sure many ladies of the night are, they are rather defined by their profession.

Yeah, that's a good idea. Instead of posting this in abuse I should have acted all vigilante and tried to talk to him instead of trusting our abuse forum system.

In retrospect, maybe that would have been a good idea since this didn't solve for shit and somehow became a general discussion topic.

You didn't get anything sorted though, he is still using the offensive avatar.

It opened up the debate though mate... hehe on just about everything!

it showed that at present there is no ruling or guideline with regards this kind of grotesque.

It showed that we could probably have an avatar with a genuine snuff picture of a lady being murdered with a chainsaw, provided we can not see her uncovered nipple!

I would likely have never seen it had it not been for this thread.

And you wonder why emergency room employee attrition /drug use /depression/mental disorders are so high?

to the original poster: I think it best if you edit the thread title to (delete)..

Just my opinion.

No can do. I expect this to be solved or a new policy be enacted so that it can be solved or I will begin the process of quiting the site. I just won't be a part of something that has moderators who condone this kind of behavior.

What I'm going to do if no progress is made in 24 hours (if anyone cares):
  • Stop posting in all forums other then the Foundry & Tournaments
  • Finish all my current games out of politeness.
  • Finish all my current tournaments (hosted and involved in) also out of politeness.
  • When I am no longer in games or tournaments I will also stop posting in Tournaments and only be in the Foundry.

its an ugly picture coleman, but why is it so wrong? Its obviously a medical procedure, and not any form of abuse. its clearly posted to elicit an emotional response, but I honestly dont see how quitting will matter one bit.

Many disagree with many things in here, but threatening quitting is more a sign you cant stand losing, than anything else. There will be so many more questionable things posted in avatars, signatures, and threads. Are you really going to quit over each one.

Its a disgusting avatar. I can still picture it, and I havent looked at it in a day or so. I wont ever look at it again. The guy will be on more ignore lists as time goes by, but I honestly dont see the point of quitting over a not racist, non pornographic avatar. theres a 100000 players in and out. Many will be a pain in the neck.

I fully respect your opinion that it should be banned, and I wouldnt care if it was one bit. Theres no inherent freedom of speech for such a thing, but I also dont care if its there, nor that kids call each other names all day long on flame wars, look at porn in their homes, yell the same things at school, and have access to such pictures in any medical book, in any library.

I doubt even the user of the avatar is happy the poor kid needed brain surgery, and clearly he doesnt respect how many could be offended by seeing such a thing, but it really is just a picture of a medical procedure when it comes right down to it. Its shocking, disgusting, and annoying, but his message could very well be that we shouldnt complain about losing 60 to 3 on a stupid dice attack, when there are kids in the world having reconstructive brain surgery as we speak. I tend to doubt it, but it is just as possible.

Consider this before threatening to leave. Though I partially respect you may be doing it to right a wrong, it really does seem its more because you cant stand not getting your way. If you truly think its so bad that you need to do everything you can to get rid of it, then kudos to you for sticking to your beliefs. To me it just doesnt seem that bad.

squeemishness is no reason to ban this guy. i think his name raises a pretty valid issue and the avatar is pseudo polemic. big deal. most of you eat carcass for dinner every day. get a sense of fucking perspective.

I've seen a heckuva lot worse on Discovery Channel. My last roommate was in the medical profession, so watched all those graphic medical shows. Everyone has a different tolerance level, that's for sure.

Anyway, I think the new version of the forums may have an option to not see posts of a certain user. There also might be a greasemonkey script out there that does the same thing. I suggest if anyone is that offended by anyone's avatar, to look into that.

hehe, i respect that Tycoon!
........To be honest i would be perfectly willing.. if it suited my purposes.. to argue from your perspective too.

Coleman, I agree with all that Fitz said in his last, well balanced, post (i made it to the end). It would be a terrible shame for you to leave on a matter of principle in this case.

The subject matter of the avatar was obviously chosen to shock but it may also have been chosen to toy with our indignation; on face value it is an affront to decency, on closer examination it is a mission of mercy.

I don't want to see this image, that is for sure! I also think that your line in the sand could be a little further back.

The issue for me here is any other site (except for what I perceive to be a very select few) the first moderator to see that picture would have removed it or changed it and warned the user. The fact that isn't something happening here is disturbing to me, to the point that I don't really want to be here anymore. It isn't about winning or losing, I may be gone regardless of the outcome of this.

I didn't choose to look at it, I came across one of the posts made by this guy. If I had known it was going to be there I wouldn't have been.

DM: Thanks for that, my posting that wasn't really meant to be a threat to anyone, I was just trying to let people know I'm going to finish the games and tournaments I'm in and then restrict myself to the foundry where I made an obligation to those people.

To answer your question about why the post was moved. I did it since it's not currently against any policy or guideline we have, and had turned into a general discussion/debate about the allowance of such things.
