Major League Soccer (MLS) [Week 1 of 26]

Post by GreecePwns »

Now that the 2007 MLS Cup Playoffs have come around, why not make a tourney celebrating the fastest growing sport in America (and Toronto)?

Rules
-Each player will represent one of the 13 current MLS teams, as well as the San Jose Earthquakes, the team coming back from a one year hiatus.
-Unlike the real MLS, teams will be put in one table instead of the Eastern + Western Conferences
-Each team will play each other a total of 2 times (1 home and 1 away), for a total of 26 regular season games.
-3 points awarded for a win, 1 point to each team if the game goes past 10 rounds (no matter who wins), and no points awarded for a loss
-The top 8 teams will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs, a 2-legged single elimination bracket.
-The top 4 teams in the league will also by eligible for the invite only 2008 SuperLiga tournament, which will be held after this and the Mexican Primera leagues finish. Playoff finish will not factor into this.
-To register, please include your home map, cards, and forts. All games are sequential.

Looks like we're headed for a round 1 playoff match, which I'm going to.

I'll go with Colorado

Sounds fun...I'll take the Rapids...Australia, flat, chained.

I'm more of a hockey fan, and I can't figure out why they don't just go to the 3-points for a win format...and forget the stupid shootouts.

I like your 10-round idea to ties...creative and will make things more realistic. I'm looking forward to it.

Shouldn't that be 52 games, since you play 13 teams 4 times?
And how many games will there be played at once. Will you send the games 1 by 1 or in a group of more games?

San Jose Earthquakes for me:

Italy, Escalating, Chained
Highest score: 3130 (9 July 2009)

that many games really.

Does the real MLS play 52 games? I don't follow it at all...but that seems like a lot. It's fine for our league...I was just curious.

No, they play 30, but I added the San Jose team and decided not to use the conferences.

And it's 42 games.

Hmm...yeah I just noticed that. 52 is correct, but I'll make a poll for either 26 or 52, with and other choice.

And I will send one each week.
