Adrian: Einstein flunked out of school, twice.
Paulie: Is that so?
Adrian: Yeah. Beethoven was deaf. Helen Keller was blind. I think Rocky's got a good chance.

Military history is an interesting one. Of all the 'genres' (as it were), you get the highest number of historians who haven't gone through the traditional Rankeian BA, MA, PhD route...Which makes it a very accessible discipline, but one rife with errors.

Never been to University but tomorrow I have a STAT test for mature age entry for 2008. Applied for Politics and International Studies
Never went after high school because there was no course that interested me at all and I really couldn't be fucked. Good thing I'm 23 now because my high school scores are pretty much irrelevant!
Hopefully I do well tomorrow, it was actually weird this week studying for it, hadn't done any form of study for 6 years.
Ill have my undergrad done in sociology, im not nearly as cool as everyone else around here, ill only have a minor in history. I probably could have double majored it had i been a little more industrious in college.

I don't know how you manage sociology . My partner did a joint honours degree in politics and sociology and she said that half the time sociology seems to be pre-occupied with convincing itself that it is a valid science. She wasn't a big fan at all, really.

heh im not always sure it is myself. I think sometimes had i known then what i know now i probably would have done more of a political science (which i assume is politics most everywhere else) but at the same time its broad enough that i can find a niche somewhere for whatever masters phd i decide to stumble across eventually.
it also really depends on what your doing with it. There are some branches that are much more scietnific than others, it really kinda depends on where you are and what your doing.
I LOVE history, and I would really like to be a history major, but I've yet to be convinced of how useful it would be other than just being a storehouse of interesting but not practically useful knowledge...
Someone convince me a history major is useful please!

if you want to go into academia youll be fine, or should you fall short of that, there are a slew of areas where someone could use your transferrable skills that you get with a history degree. With a lot of liberal arts degrees you really just need to show you can pick up whatever skill it is the company you are working for is trying to teach you.
Not quite sure yet (sort of wandering absent-mindedly through college, and by absent-mindedly, I mean, errr...) but I think I'm declaring as an International Development and Social Change major today. Not quite sure what this corresponds to at other schools, or even what it really means (advisor's a calc prof, so he's no help) but I love the classes. Trying to minor in Philosophy, mostly because it gives me an excuse to drink and make s@#t up.

Good choice. I had doctors Jason Ralph and Dan Jones as lecturers as an undergrad when I did some international relations. Have you come across either of them at all?
Not yet. I'm doing Politics in my first year, then International relations once the real course kicks in for the second and third year. My current lecturer is Graeme Smith, who is really good. I think he changes at week 7 when we start the next topic.
