ok, well i have been doing some hypothetical postulating as to what the lay out of this mafia game is.
In the actual book, there is only one main "bad guy", named Ozymandias(whether or not he is actually a bad guy in the book is up for debate, but in terms of this hypothesis, we will leave this point to another time) Ozzymandias is known as the smartest person in the world, and has superhuman strength and the speed to be able to catch a fired bullet. I'm pretty positive that His character is that of the mafia, and furthermore, that he would have more powers than a simple NK.
There is no other real bad guy. There is a bad creature, the humoungous monster that destroys NYC, but I doubt Diego would make this creature a mafia role, as the creature had no defining characteristics or personality besides total destruction of everything(which would be a horrible role)
Therefore, I believe there is only 1 mafia in this game, the character of Ozymandias.
Also, as there are tons of side characters, It is my belief that there are at least one or two third-party characters, with an example being Dr. Manhattan(who cares about almost nothing when it comes to the human race). Another possible third-party role would be The Comedian, who cared for nothing but peresonal pleasure and violence, and was willing to make any deal in order to continue this lifestyle(Almost positive a Comedian role would be either an SK or a Vigilante)
Finally, the rest of the roles almost HAVE to be either a cop or a variation of the cop role. There are the characters Rorschach, The Nite Owl, and Captain Metropolis, who are all characters that could all concievably(and quite probably) have a cop-esque role.
And there are so many other important characters that Diego could have implemented into this game. The Hooded Justice, and The Silk Spectre(I and II) are all possible mafia roles. The only possible reason why I think Diego only stuck with a 9 player game is because he wanted to give the bad guys a chance, and since I'm believing the Ozzymandias is the only bad guy, this thought checks out.
What it all boils down to, kids, is that the Watchmen is a world of superheroes, so I really feel that there are no "vanilla" townies, just as there are no "goon" mafiosos in this game. I'm also anticipating wild and crazy nights.

Well, crap. I just realized that if there is only 1 mafia role, then its possible for the town to win before Night 1. This doesn't seem to check out to me, so I'm now thinking that perhaps there is another mafia role.
Bubastis, Ozzymandias' genetically altered snow tiger, is a possible mafia role. There are a couple other bad guys mentioned very briefly throughout the book as well, but i hope that Diego didn't use one of them, because they lack any depth in their character and their roles would be boring and stupid.

I dunno, Rig. Looking over the Wikipedia (hey, movie in 2009!) it looks like this should be a very vig-heavy game. With the pro-town Captain Manhattan player along with the potential Ozymandias scum character, probably being wicked tricked out. Would it make more sense if Ozymandias was an SK and some baddies the scum?
