What about an option that lets you put your account on a mode so it automatically skips your turns. If you know that you will miss a turn, so the game progresses faster and others get less annoyed. It will be totally up to the players whether or not they use this option.
maybe to counter that..only allowed to do it every so often? i dont think people go on holiday that much to keep missing turns, and if they do why the hell r they playing risk?
I suggest putting your CC life in order and skip that dream holiday you've been planning & saving for years to go on.
My friend went on holiday & got stung by a hornet and when the hospital gave him a shot of some drug he went into anaphylactic shock, had a heart attack and died aged 46. Then to add insult to injury - he hadn't taken out much death insurance (due to his age) and it cost his wife a fortune to get his body back home to be burried.
Stay home and get killed in Peru by 28 armies instead of Indonesia by 1 hornet.
I dn't start games really closer to vacation, but when its sequential and 2-3 ppl deadbeat it forces me to deadbeat as well, that function woudl be really useful.
btw: you guys ahve some REALLY creepy vacation stories the worst one i know of is getting charged a lot for train tickets from london to paris
I would never click that button. There is the occasional weekend where I miss some turns, and I want my turn to take as long as possible so that I can come back and still be competitive. Checking that box would cause you to miss MORE turns. Doesn't seem to make much sense, Scions.
A vacation button could be useful. For long holidays I can see having to stop joining new games around a week before but tht still means a number of games are going to be active. Also very useful for weekend stops to ensure the flow continues.
Of course lack will have to take into account everyone being marked on vacation - game could go into overdrive
This is a good idea, but if there was to be a penalty for using this button, such as losing bonus armies or losing points, then nobody would ever use it -- nobody. They would just let it go, as they do today, and gain the points and bonuses as usual. There's no point in going to the trouble to implement a new option that has a built-in guarantor of non-use.
I would like to see this option implemented without penalties attached, though. That would be cool!

How about a forfeit game option instead. If you are way behind and just don't care anymore, or you know you are going away for a logn enough time that you would miss three turns, you could simply forfeit instead. The penalty would be the same as if you had been kicked out for missing turns, without the stigma of being a deadbeat.

I actually think that's a great idea. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that this idea is already listed under "rejected."
That means that the big-wigs have had a pow-wow in the think-tank and decided that it was for-the-birds... strictly squaresville... yesterday's tomatoes.
Get me?

A resign option was a feature in the early stages of the site's history but was removed due to abuse.
Now, back on topic, this seems like a decent option, although it may still be open for abuse. Maybe, when you click the button a notice will automatically be put int chat that you will be away.
Well, the obvious answer is that the vacation button should work just like when you get some hack to babysit your account who has no actual playing ability. That's the best of both worlds - you don't have people running amok in the game who don't know what's going on, and compared to the alternative, the vactioning player just gets armies, but is not going to be taking 24 hours to deadbeat (and everybody complains about deadbeating cause the cards got to teammate (advantage) the units go neutral (too hard to take back strategic territories), etc. etc.
So vacation button should be limited in any game to say 14 days at a time, and only used 1 time in any game (to avoid people just putting games on automatic indefinitely due to collusion to amass huge armies "just for fun"). As soon as your turn came up, you'd get your armies - including all bonuses then due, and they would be deployed to whatever territory you had the most troops on at the time. This could go for indefinite number of turns, but only for 14 days just like when you set a vacation announcement on some email (they might give you a month not 14 days... I think that's too long and would encorage lazy play).
On the other hand, sometimes you figure that how much time you have (for like weekend trips, etc.) based on an estimate that everybody at least takes a couple of house to play their game, and then add your 24 hours to that. So you might want oppoent to be able to override vacation setting to let "wait" for the 24 turn they otherwise would have and deadbeat. Could be a strategic decision to be made once when someone first activates the "vacation" button. Don't know if that's fair though cause they woudln't know if it was working and might nott get a babysitter for sure....
My ever constant two last games seem to have no end in sight!
Yeah, if you set it to vacation mode and you get killed by another player because you didn't deploy any armies, you won't be called a deadbeat because you didn't purposely miss the turns.
So good idea.
What would be better is a list of honest and reliable account sitters who are willing to cover peoples holidays. I have a 2 week period of inacivity coming up and a vacation button would just lead to me being in a very weak position after a fortnight of not attacking, assuming I am still in the game.

I agree mate!
I would not use the Vacation button, as i have a brilliant Clan who covers each other when we are away.
but a Thread with a list of trusted babysitters for those not so lucky is an excellent idea. Maybe Each babysitter would have to be seconded by 10 other users or something.
Post the Idea Gypsy! i'll back it!
PS. I suppose this could just be a thread in General... but it would be better if it were site backed.

That would probably require some very CC addicted ppl that has a lot of free time all year round(which is definitely not me since I have school in late August).
Nevertheless, this is a good idea.
