The Golden Compass

Post by freezie »

I can'tw ait until tomorow, where I'll finally get to see that movie. Read the 3 books, twice each ( three times for the first, because of the movie ) and I can safely say that this will end the year in a pretty much good way, movie-wise.

So, who's gonna watch it? I do hope you can't wait to see Lyra and Iorek in action, if you read at least the first one. :)

Iofur? He is very shady in the background, and beside fighting Irorek, he doesn't do much, I wouldn't call him important to the story.

first: agnostic
Second: so what?
I am laughing so much at the christian's criticism: first they criticise it for being anti-church then the people who made the movie told them that they watered it down and so the christians are attacking and I swear I'm not making this up: that it will be so good the children will want to read the books and the parents will buy the books not knowing   .

Doesn't really interst me that much, truth be told.

The books had religion in it, in this way:

They used the Church in a mediaval-time-like way. It is mostly shown as a symbol of power, like it was much before today.

The only reference to the bibble are exactly like christians are saying of it. Eden Garden, and the ' dust' except that the dust part takes the sentence, and use it for his own story. It's not against, neither for. It's perfectly neutral.

Then again, the only thing that would probably bother is the last book, where the war against the angels happen. Yet again, they are not fighting the one you preach, but the one who took over. All, again, in a fantastic way to fit the story.

I a, not religious, yet found it was neutral enough to be a very good book. I do not see anything that would be anti-religion in them..

What in hell are the Christians complaining about? They got their Chronicles of Narnia, and nobody said a word about that. Just let the movie be.

It is, it is....

And more shame about how many stupid details they changed just to mess us up. I just watched it, it was good..But they messed up the whole story. It's like I was reading the book upside down. And iofur was named raknar? You're kidding me, right?!

He is imporatant, without him taking the throne, Lyra would have never met Iorek.

True, but in that thinking, EVERYTHING becomes important.

Then again, fate made it, because of the prophecy and such..Therefor, they were ment to met. So the character os iofur is less important. Still is, but compared to Iorek, especially if you look at the trilogy as a whole.
