Euchre is a mandatory course in the dorms at most U.S. universities.

And there is a two-person variation that a family member taught me which consists of each person having four cards down, four cards up (in stacks), and four in each persons hand. You don't know what your four down cards are until you play off the four up.

4 years in a tuberculosis sanitarium gave the family member an encyclopedic knowlege of card games.

i prefer 500
it is the same as Euchre except you have 10 cards each and you bid before the round starts on how many tricks you will make with points awarded for achieving or lost for failing.

Euchre's a great game. I play it sometimes with extended family on vacations.

also, a tidbit that I like to think is real:

the biggest bauer in the game is the Jack... together this makes the Jack Bauer.

and whats the name of the protagonist on the hit TV show 24? Jack Bauer.

Euchre is a great game .. i do prefer 500 though, in all its variations: pick a hand, 2 player and the 2 other forms that i've played.
3 player cut-throat and 4 player, partners is a fantastic, strategic game.


for gambling it can only be No limit Texas holdem for me with Omaha hi/low for a bit of release.
