Europe 2.0

Post by Balsiefen »

I am posting this after seeing comments in the Europe map thread-they are rather similar to those in the brittish isles thread before being revmaped

Our current Europe map is extreamly enjoyable for both playability and graphics; it is one of my favorate maps. However almost half of it consists of places not in Europe while ones that are in europe are merged together. However no revamp is being made because to do so would ruin playability and graphics on one of our best maps which i agree with.

However, what i am proposing is that a new map is made to work alongside the old map-one given a similar treatment to world 2.0 with every country included and not those outside europe not included.

Plese note: I am not wanting to make this map myself, I'm just putting the idea out there for discussion and the taking up of anyone who has some free time.

Anyway, just to put the suggestion out there :)

Edit:now i think of it, mabye this should have gone into foundry discussion-Ah well, it could go eather way.

What'd be awesome is if this was made like World 2.0 with sub continents and everything. Say Spain and France as sub continents, then hold them both + Portugal for "western europe" bonus.

For the really tiny continents you might need to just put an abbreviation or a single letter on the map and then a key by the legend as fitting the names is going to be impossible.

If it's popular enough, I'd be willing to try my hand at a new Europe Map...

My initial thoughts would be to have all of the 47 European countries (recognised by the UN), with some possible additions:
  • If the UK was divided into England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, that makes 50.
The Faroe Islands would be a useful link between UK/Norway/Iceland. (51)
Could include Kaliningrad (between Poland/Lithuania) and European Russia, to help link Georgia/Azerbaijan/Armenia (53)
Turkey would be a useful link between the Eastern Europe and Georgia/Azerbaijan/Armenia (54)
Image

That makes 54 territories. Not too sure how these would be grouped into sub-continents; but that would come later...

Ideas??

edit: I would not use the map shown above , but would probably create one from scratch.

I haven't had a chance to put any graphics together (been getting ready for Christmas!), but have had a couple of thoughts re gameplay...

Continents:
Scandinavia (Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Faroe Islands)
The Baltics (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania)
The Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia)
Meditteranean Europe (Portugal, Spain, Monaco, Italy, San Marino, The Vatican, Greece)
Asian Borders (Russia, Kaliningrad, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey)
UK/British Isles (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales) / Ireland
Eastern Europe (Belarus, Ukraine)
Western Europe (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Liechenstein, Switzerland)
Central Europe (Germany, Poland, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary)
(I think that's most of them!)

Additionally, I thought it would be interesting to have some minor bonuses for European territorial skirmishes;

ie
Cyprus: Greece+Cyprus=+1; Turkey+Cyprus=+1
N. Ireland: Ireland+N.Ireland=+1; England+N.Ireland=+1
Kaliningrad: Kaliningrad+Russia=+1; Kaliningrad+Germany=+1

It looks like I'll be away from a computer until Christmas, so please put any thoughts here in the meantime.

if the idea is to make a larger europe map with territories within small regions within countries, most of the work is already done. You could take the current British Isles map, France map, Iberia map (in progress), Italy map, and benelux map, and put them all together with a common visual scheme. You could use the existing territories and regions within the maps, then use the countries as larger bonuses a la the World 2.0 Continents. The territory lay-outs are already play tested and familiar to CC users, so why re-invent the wheel? You'd have to add regions in eastern europe and scandinvia of course, unless somebody gets on it and makes those maps.

Or use the building gimmick and have the small countries drawn bigger. Like how mibi did for Baghdad in Iraq War!

I'm now thinking of making a new Europe map with unique gameplay. However, it needs some xml mods first (it'll be pretty good though)

MEDIEVAL EUROPE

-this map is currently under construction by me. I'ts going to take a bit to finish and christmas will slow it down. From past experiance i have found that my graphics skills are useless so anyone wanting to do that is welcome to contact me.
+++The map uses features which are not yet (and possibly may not be) installed on CC-it may not be able to be put up for a bit.+++

also, this is obviously not modern europe so anyone wanting to do Euro 2.0 is welcome :D

i would suggest making a Europe 2.0 map with all europe countrys than a medieval europe map, but hey its your time and effort so go for it
