Dude, they're libertarians. Of course they're against it. That's what it means to be libertarian.

I almost agree with you... libertarians are against most anything that Federal Government wishes to do in the personal lives of people. I do find it disturbing that they would ban incandescent lights and not florescent.

... CFL's are not produced in the US, at all. They all are made in China.

... Probably too costly to work with the mercury in the US, what with all the necessary measures that would have to be taken for workers' safety. We all know that in China, nobody cares.

We are perfectly free to do business with the Chinese. Just think how difficult it would be if they were made only in Cuba?

Of course we are free to do business with the Chinese... the point is, the mercury in the florescent bulbs is terrible for the environments. The ecological argument for banning incandescent bulbs is ridiculous. In all honesty, LED and halogen lighting is the best.

Oh, yeah, I can agree to that... but I am personally partial to the dim of the harvest moon... and the sweet smell of woodsmoke on the chill air.

LED's really are the best form of lighting... They're low energy and last for ever... The only time I've ever seen an LED die is when I killed it (by putting twice the maximum voltage through it... Ah... Good times... They smell like ass though!).
In heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine... You got your things, and I've got mine.

You know, I have no idea... how long does it usually take to get your group after you ask for it? and why the hell do you have to ask for a group anyway? thats kinda lame.

They had DBC and the Heathens forums up in less than a week. The Tavernside clan I think took about a week.

Except one of my sources was Alternative Radio... not precisely a "right wing" program. DEFINITELY not a pro war program. That is why I really question those facts.

Well, there is plenty written about the Lancet article. There have been interviews on Anti-War radio with the host Horton, who is a libertarian, but pretty objective. There have been interviews on NPR. Well there is oodles of stuff out there. It is just a hard reality for Americans to swallow -- that we are responsible for some many civilian deaths, that it gets limited play in the main media. Although, I do consider Lancet to be main media.

Civilian death during a war is just a reality of war. There really is no way to avoid it. That is why war should not be endeavored unless there is no other option, and an open declaration has been made. We haven't declared war since WWII. Its shameful, really.

The war is Iraq was not (is not) necessary, thus the civilian deaths were not necessary. It was murder, plain and simple.

Besides, what has happened to us. Since when did the civilian population become expendable?

I wasn't suggesting that it is, if that's what you think. political power has gotten so strong that the ability to simply attack another country, even without a formal declaration of war, is now possible. I think that the military has become a plaything of the government. It is really only supposed to be used to defend our sovereignty... not slug it out for resources.

Crikey, I go to bed and 6 pages are added.

If you plant a field yourself, look after it yourself, harvest it yourself, you shouldn't have to share the food, though you may choose to. However, how practical is that? Cooperation is one of the things that makes humans able to achieve great (?) things. If you follow that logic, you must also make the tools you use in your field yourself, build your own storage place, protect your food. I'm sure I don't need to labour the point further, you must surely see that cooperating is more efficient and beneficial than isolationism.

However, the moment you start to cooperate you exchange the many benefits you gain from cooperation for a degree of responsibility to the people you cooperate with. This is true on a personal level and on a government level. It is the reasonable price you pay for all the things you gain from cooperation.

We all cooperate at some level - who made the computer you're using? Thus the argument is purely about the degree of responsibility to others we have and should have. If you truly want to live a libertarian ideal you have to give up your share in exchange. Anything you have that you didn't make yourself. If you don't, you are stealing from someone, even if you don't know who. In fact you are stealing from everyone, asshole!

So, libertarians, I challenge you to decouple from the connectedness - otherwise you are not holding true to an ideal, you are simply freeloading from society.

I believe that Libertarians have much more of a "you keep what you kill" attitude. For instance, the government shouldn't be allowed to tax your income... that is your money, you made it & they didn't. They shouldn't give that money to a jobless mother of 4 for welfare or whatever, because she did not earn that money.
More along those ideas than "you keep everything."
