Ah, there's an idea. You'll want to make them a fairly high neutral, though, and not deployment points. Which battles do you have in mind?

Off the top of my head... There's El Alamein, Tunis (or whatever the Allied victory there was), Dakar, Madagascar, Addis Ababa, Gabon... there was some Free French Business in Libya I think as well.

I dunno, its not a wide variety I was anticipating. It really leaves the south untouched. Perhaps battles and a capitol for each power?

Also, Jefjef makes an interesting point about the US which is kind of nagging me. What if we put a ship off of Morocco, neutral starting with a 3 autodeploy or something... To balance things, we could put the Japanese Navy off of Madagascar as well.

I have an idea for this map.

Make it so that countries can attack their landing points, and landing points can bombard their countries. This way you could still eliminate an enemy in the game, but everyone will still be stuck with the countries they get in the start, so you can still also plan individual objectives for each country if you want.

Well, I'm opposed to this idea because then th entire dynamic of a game on this map is going to change. Players will no longer seek to fulfill their objective and instead bombard their enemies with cruz missiles from Alexandria and Brazzaville. A totally unreal situation for World War II.

Part of the conflict raging in Africa was the fact that the European powers cold not be defeated in Africa and lose the war, though their edge would be slipping. Another part was that neither power knew how much the other was going to put into the African theater versus the European one. It was always a tough call for Hitler, who eventually found himself in Russia, and who saw the fighting as a distraction from his objectives, but kept pumping men in. But to British, German actions in Africa were a sign that Hitler was going to clear them from Egypt and meet with Japan. Hence why Japanese ships showing up off of Madagascar lead the British to take the island from Vichy France.

There's too many maps where players just eliminate each other... in fact, its pretty much all of them except for when Das Schloss gets quenched. I want to try making an objective based map where the objective is the only way to win.

Ah, I've just had a thought. You mention bombards... What if the European countries could bombard their spheres of influence or perhaps certain areas of them, symbolizing revolt to occupation? Might be a nice way to fight if the enemy has blocked your entry point... i\;ll run it by Unit but otherwise, if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated.
