I am of the opinion, that at least at the federal level, it is near impossible for a president to stick to his values (in a matter the common would would expect) there are just too many people being governed of too many opinions, and we try to be careful about the tyranny of the majority, and what is needed is a president that is not corrupt, or at least is able to say NO to special interests.Gregrios wrote:I get the distinct feeling that because of my Bush blowing up the world avatar, I'm being presumed an anti-conserverative. Well, let me make this perfectly clear, I am NOT anti-conservative but I am anti-Bush. It has absolutely nothing to do with the parties values and everything to do with the man. Bush was for a lack of a better word, a scumbag. I like Obama for his ability to be straight foward and to the point. He seems like a fairly decent person who actually cares about the wellfare of the country and it's people. Liberal or conservative, honestly it's all the same to me. The country needs someone like him and not someone who spies on it's own citizens and manufactures lies to cover his own arse. I hope I've made myself perfectly clear and if my read on Obama turns out wrong, I will fully admit my folly and also give him credit for being a master of deceit.
Is that the guy in your avatar or is it the guy who was annoucer turned poker pro you're referring to? Seriously?beezer wrote:I would also like to let everyone know that I don't really hate Gabe Kaplan.
Good point. That would certainly explain why I don't invest much in a parties values as they don't seem to have much impact at all. Thanks for that, learn something new everyday, eh.Phatscotty wrote:I am of the opinion, that at least at the federal level, it is near impossible for a president to stick to his values (in a matter the common would would expect) there are just too many people being governed of too many opinions, and we try to be careful about the tyranny of the majority, and what is needed is a president that is not corrupt, or at least is able to say NO to special interests.Gregrios wrote:I get the distinct feeling that because of my Bush blowing up the world avatar, I'm being presumed an anti-conserverative. I admit he's got off to a rocky start, among those you mention, he's also went back on some promises. Though it's still early in his reign and honestly I feel like maybe his inexperience might have led him to bitting off more than he can chew. I plan on giving him until the end of his term to determine whether he was indeed the right man for the job. I think all of Obama's hype from the election has put on him a higher than usual expectation that would be next to impossible to match. Just 2-3 months into his reign and people were already jumping on the anti-Obama band wagen saying how he was cooperating with the special interests. I say give the man some time to set his feet squarely and then see what happens.jay_a2j wrote:I agree with your dislike of Bush. But I have to disagree with your take on Obama. the federal level fucks everything up. it does not mesh with the real world. it's like a different political dimension. Either way, I do not think it impossible for a president to transcend it. I think John Adams gave it a fair attempt, and Andrew Jackson mastered it. Clinton, in a very much more complicated way, caught a very nice vibe as well.Gregrios wrote:Good point. I've NEVER thought of you as anti-conservative. In fact, I've always (at least as far back as I can recall) thought of you as conservative, and a reasonable, clear-thinking one.Gregrios wrote:I get the distinct feeling that because of my Bush blowing up the world avatar, I'm being presumed an anti-conserverative.

Or are they one and the same?
This is precisely my perspective on the man. I am still hopeful, but there is a dimming of it to this point. Well stated.Gregrios wrote:I admit he's got off to a rocky start, among those you mention, he's also went back on some promises. That IS a snake. I'd never looked closely at your avi, and for whatever reason thought "you" were aiming a pistol or something at the camera. I'll be darned.jonesthecurl wrote:Oh, and I am not a snake.
