Best restaurant in your life

Post by dwilhelmi »

Have you ever been out to eat at a place so delicious that it just left it's mark on you? A place that is far and away the best place you have ever eaten in your entire life? I'd like to hear about it!

For me, I have two that are in the runnings for best restaurant ever:
1. The Oasis, right outside of Austin, TX - I ate there probably about 10 years ago or so, so I can't vouch for it now, but at the time it was good enough that I still rave about it 10 years after the fact. Outdoor seating with a sunset view over a beautiful lake, with a chicken fried chicken entrée bigger than your head, with the best flavor of any I have had since.
2. Ike's Place, San Francisco - sandwiches so good, the rest of the whole world disappears, and it does not matter that you just waited over an hour to get your food and are currently sitting on the ground outside since the place has literally no seating. Meatballs, marinara, pepper jack cheese, and mozzarella sticks, all on delicious bread baked with their signature garlicy Dirty Sauce - can you tell I liked it? I mean, mozzarella sticks on a sandwich, need I say more?

Anyone else have a place that has stood out to them?

Best restaurant I ever went to was a tiny Kobe beef steak place in Kobe, Japan. Two tables, and a a few seats around the grill. Hella expensive, but it was my birthday present.

My god, Kobe beef really is the best. I've had amazing steaks from plenty of places, but they all just taste like Kobe beef. Same way that strawberry bubblegum tastes like a strawberry. Ok- not so extreme, but this was just beef at its best.

Weird thing was, as we were leaving and we were paying the bill, a Japanese woman got up from one of the tables (we were sitting at the grill), and told us that Mika Hakkinen (famous formula 1 driver) was siitting with her. She wanted to know if I wanted his autograph. I didn't, and said so. I think I upset her. Why would I want his autograph?

Springfield, Mo has the best Mexican style restaurant I have EVER had. Nothing even comparable to it. I even buy their hot sauce by the gallon when I'm able too. It would make an old tennis shoe taste like a taco. 8-)

Mexican Villa - El Taco.

MM GOOD!

Tony's Roma, went there thinking it was a Tony Roma's, sadly it's gone. Second would be Ferris' oysterbar, don't know if it's still there.

There's an excellent restaurant in South Yarra, Melbourne, Australia. It's Turkish, and seriously is absolutely amazing. Best desserts ever.

One of my favorites here is Corona Village. Great Mexican food, great service, clean restuaraunt.

Another one of my favorites before it closed down was Wingers. Sadly, the owner no longer wanted and tried to sell it, but no one would buy it so he shut it down. They had some really good burgers there.

Both were/are local resturaunts only BTW.

VooDoo Steak and Lounge on top of the Rio in Las Vegas. Went there a few times and had great meals. Great view of the strip from the other side of the highway at the 55th floor. But the best Ceasar salad I ever had was at the Sun Valley Lodge in Idaho.

I would like to check out the Waldgeist Restaurant in Hofheim Germany. Just the pictures and videos on the internet are funny and the food looks pretty good.

My best restaurant is mostly based on my college budget. Cracker Barrel has the best breakfasts for the money in my opinion. I like to order Uncle Herschel's Favorite almost every time. :D

Best restaurant food I have had in a long time was at a small Turkish restaurant in Queens New York a few years ago. Sadly, I cannot remember it's name.

I so rarely eat out that most places I could mention are likely no longer in business or at least highly changed.

bomb ass pizza yo. I was so surprised. Also, remember, when milk and cheese prices go up, it hurts chucky cheese bottom line, so when you hear those reports, short chucky cheese.

If you're ever in New Orleans and want to check out the best local neighborhood restaurant, "Mandinas" is the place. It's off of Canal St near Carrollton. Nothing fancy - go to Antoine's or Gallatoire's for that - Brennan's of course for the jazz breakfast and eggs Hollandaise, but if you want somewhere that locals go to get a good inexpensive meal, check out Mandina's. Best oyster po-boys in the city.

I can't garuantee it's still as good, but this place used to be a must on any visit to Stratford-on-Avon.
The mushroom bhaji is unspeakably good.

Best restaurant ever?

Dining Car 1890, prior to its expansion when they actually purchased a dining car - you could throw the popover into the air and by the time it landed you had plenty of time to prepare the butter. (East Setauket, NY) It was a husband and wife operation. Alas it is no more, the expanded restaurant in Stony Brook is now an Indian Restaurant.

Moe's (Key West, FL) - down home French cooking in a very small little place run by husband and wife.

Rosa Mexicano (Lincoln Center, NY, NY) - this is a great place! From the fresh made guacamole to the high end tequila and all the main courses inbetween!

Alexandros (Miller Place, NY) - this isn’t the Greek restaurant you are looking for; it’s the one you dream of. They give you a mortar and pestle to make your own fresh hummus. Try the whole Mediterranean fish; they de-bone it for you at the table. The lamb shank is also to die for.
