I agree that a job is not an explicit right. But I think it is a general responsibility of society to create jobs.HapSmo19 wrote:

Agreed. But before society can do it's part, government needs to gtfo of the way.ViperOverLord wrote:I agree that a job is not an explicit right. But I think it is a general responsibility of society to create jobs.

Except it should read:maasman wrote:The top part of the sign is false, but you guys should look at the rest of the message, that part is a good lesson for everyone.
Well said. I don't like people thinking it's a "right" from the standpoint of "well then I don't really need to do a good job because I can't be fired", but I do think that people should be able to expect that jobs will be available to them.ViperOverLord wrote:I agree that a job is not an explicit right. Even this is becoming increasingly unrealistic as productivity/per hour of work increases. I've read estimates that in order for the economy to provide a job for everyone willing to work in an industrialized nation, a GDP growth of 5%/year would be necessary. That means the economy would have to double in size every 14 or 15 years just to keep unemployment low, in other words: growing 13000% over the span of a century.Woodruff wrote:Well said. Oh snap. You are soooo right! If the government would just gtfo of the way then we could go back to the days of child labor, unsafe working conditions and absolute minimum wage. Ah the nostalgia!HapSmo19 wrote:Agreed. But before society can do it's part, government needs to gtfo of the way.ViperOverLord wrote:I agree that a job is not an explicit right. Nothing like a stereotypical predictable response to get my day going. The woman wants a job genius - why do you call her lazy? Interesting thing about scriptural references to the poor though - there is never any distinction made between the poor and the "deserving poor". God just says to show mercy to the poor - not judge them.Night Strike wrote:There's a difference between looking out for the "poor and weak" and calling out the lazy.b.k. barunt wrote:Hey nightstrike, next time you go to one of your Bible studies you might want to check this one out - just fer shits'n giggles i mean . . .Night Strike wrote:Maybe if she would spend her time applying instead of protesting, she might get a job.

Well, this thread was about pointing out that a job is not a right but in my usual fashion, I digress. Why don't you say a special prayer for the whatevercolortheyare fuckwits that put that sign in her hand? Imeanfuck, she probably thinks it's the truth and she's being denied her right to a job but that's not the problem or what gives you a feeling like you just stepped in a big pile of dogshit, noooooo. It's the guy on the interweb (that's never lied to her) making stupid jokes that is the oppressor!b.k. barunt wrote:I gotta tell ya Hap, reading that gave me the same feeling that i get when i step in a big pile of dogshit.HapSmo19 wrote:Agreed again.

I worked in the New Orleans ghettos for years and that's what i saw - defeat. You have no fucking idea what people like that girl are up against. The schools they go to are substandard, their parents (more often than not it's parent) don't have the education or intelligence to teach them the social skills needed to present themselves in an appropriate manner when interviewing for jobs and they can't afford appropriate clothing for such. To top it all off they are black - would you hire a girl like that instead of some chirpy little white chick? Yeah right.
The kids i worked with responded eagerly to our efforts when we would try to help them learn what they needed to get jobs, but there weren't enough of us to help more than a paltry few - too many comfortable white fuckwits who'd much rather sit back and pass judgement on them. Are you actually ignorant enough to think that she'd be out there carrying around that sign if she hadn't already been out there trying to get a job??
You piss and moan when they collect welfare instead of working and you piss and moan when they want to work. I don't pray much anymore but i'm gonna say a special prayer that you get what's coming to you on this one. That comment of yours really shits the bed and it needs to be answered in like fashion.
