We have had a "black jesus" running his mouth around CC lately and although I have nothing against owen, this would make for an interesting thread for me... was Jesus black? Post your thoughts below and after everyone has vented I will put up a poll and see what the majority believes.
This was a photo I found just on google of what i always believed Jesus looked like... not black, but not white.

Obama will tell you Jesus is black. Correction. Barak Obama sat in a church for 20 years that preaches Jesus was a black man. I think Obama said "I didn't hear those parts."
Well, I have heard it,and I have never even been to that church. Want to see it for yourself? in his own words? okay.
I am a radical Jesus freak and I don't give a tinker's slug what color Jesus' skin was.
For the record, he almost certainly looked more like the "black Jesus" pictures than he did like the blonde drawings in the old children's Bibles. He was a freakin' Palestinian Jew for crying out loud.
The right answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer to the real question.
Icons are not always pictoral representations, there is symbolism in the style of icons that gives an off worldiness to them.
Icons generally get "black" over time (from all the soot of oil lamps and incense) and icons derived from these icons often carry that darkness
He's got a grecco-roman nose
As to his exact skin color ... the question is whether he gets his darkness from his genes or the sun, because everyone tends to be somewhat tan in the Middle East.

Seeing has he lived in present day isreal, he would likely have the same skin color as people who's families have lived their for many generations. Skin color is related to sunlight, pretty straight forward.

Human skin color can range from almost black (in skin with very high concentrations of the dark brown pigment melanin) to nearly colorless (appearing pinkish white due to the blood vessels under the skin[1]). Skin color is determined primarily by the amount and type of melanin. Variations in skin color are mainly genetic in origin.
I have always figured Jesus was medium toned. I noticed in "passion of the Christ" the Jew the Romans ordered to help Jesus up, looked like a red-headed Arab. It matched up well with what I had envisioned. Further emphasized in that scene, was the obvious intent that the Roman could pick the Jew just by looking at him, as if he were the spitting image of a Jew
i think this forum is educated enough to realize that Jesus wasn't snow white or pitch black, as some would like to believe. as others have said, he was from the middle east, which likely indicates medium-toned skin.

This guy said it or me. So I'll just agree.
What this guy said.

Ironically, the Jew who they forced to carry the cross was from Cyrene in Africa. He was probably black.

But back to Jesus being black or not, so far we have a "for sure not white", "mid toned", "mexican" Jesus... weather you believe in Jesus as savior of the world or not, based on where he was, was it possible that he was black or not?
But on a more serious note, probably dark skinned but not what you'd call black. Mid-toned sounds about right as someone else says. On a lighter note, I don't really care what someone 2000 years ago looked like, when he has nothing to do with my life now... can we argue over how large Boudica's melons were next?
Ok so mid toned from Pander... no on the melons in this thread but maybe in another like i said before, weather you believe in Jesus or not... just curious to see what people think as some people, because some people including the first post from phatscotty with the link of Jeremiah Wright saying Jesus was a poor black man in a rich white world, is this the truth?
