republicans @ Lincoln Memorial

Post by aage »

So I suppose you guys have heard all about it on Fox...

It's not really the demonstration itself that bothers me as I already knew republicans were hypocrits, but it's seriously sad that Beck a) claims that this is not a political demonstration and b) claims that he didn't consider that this is the MLK-day and place.

The Republicans are hypocrites because they hosted an event at a statue of the first Republican president? I'm not 100% sure where they hypocrisy therein lies ... this may be a case of steenkolenengels.

In any case, I don't think it was Republicans per se, I believe this was an event of the assorted organizations claiming the Tea Party monicker.

I only saw the speech delivered by M.L. King's niece, Alveda King, I think she followed Glenn Beck. I didn't catch the rest of it as I just saw highlights after I got home this evening.

No, I believe these republicans are hypocrits because they protest against the ones responsible for destroying their country's reputation... I think I don't need to tell you where I'm going at now.

Also, I got a newspaper article on the tea party right here. Wanna hear quotes? I'll have to translate them for you, but I'm sure you'll know what they mean...

" Beck and Palin both spoke from the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, the same spot where Martin Luther King delivered his famous speech in 1963 (I have a dream). "

" A student from Florida had a shirt with the text 'only date republicans'. Someone else was wearing a shirt with a smiling George Bush, with the text 'so, you guys missing me yet?' "

Naaaah, that meeting had totally nothing to do with republican political ideology.

As a Republican, I do not see Beck as a representative of the party. The guy is a wack-job. Only once have I watched it (not willingly, but I really could not do much else at the time).

Though I'm quite sure there are people who claim to be representatives of other parties that the party's more sane members want nohting to do with.

Someone wearing a t-shirt in a crowd means ... oh I can't even be bothered to finish typing this sentence! ACK, gang! :o

This may just be a problem you're having expressing yourself in English, which seems to be a difficulty with many Dutchers for which, if I misunderstand as a result of that, I apologize. However, here's a 101 I wrote on the "Tea Party" factions so you can present a better-educated worldview:

Speaking of which, Abraham Lincoln is #3 on my list of 5 SCARIEST LOOKING AMERICANS!!!

MOST SCARIEST - KEVIN FEDERLINE

Image

#2 - MOST SCARIEST - MARTIN VAN BUREN

(Did you know he spoke Dutcher in the White House? It's true! He was born before Dutcher was completely eradicated in New York and still spoke it to his family and close advisers.)

Image

#3 MOST SCARIEST - ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Image

#4 MOST SCARIEST - GEN. NATHAN BEDFORD FOREST

Image

#5 MOST SCARIEST - HILLARY CLINTON

Here's the video I saw of Martin Luther King Jr.'s niece, Alveda King, speaking at the Glenn Beck rally. I thought she was quite eloquent, even if - as a dialectic Marxist-Leninist - I don't personally agree with her politically.

Please don't mock the general level of English amongst Dutch people... I'm afraid I'll score higher than the American average on English tests...
Nonetheles it's funny how you refer a Dutch guy like me, who, as you say, has no real understanding of English, to a topic full of seriously difficult words. It must be entertaining, I suppose.

Still, thanks for the link. I do happen to find a lot of references to the Republican party in your lecture on Tea Parties though, and since the tone of the event we're discussing is leaning towards being Republican, I don't think it is a misunderstanding to believe this is a Republican event.

There can't be an intelligent discussion until we identify the source of our conflict of visions. If the conflict is purely linguistic, we'll save ourselves heartache by recognizing it at the outset.

Aside from someone wearing a T-Shirt, what is the "leaning towards being Republican" tone you're talking about? Or was that it - the guy wearing the t-shirt?

ACK aage! I think the Steenkolenengels struck again. :o Just in point of clarification, "conservative" - in English - means a "right leaning perspective." "Republican" refers to a specific political party. I have no doubt there were members of the Republican Party at that event. I also have no doubt there were members of the Constitution Party, the Libertarian Party and non-party members at it. Since, supposedly, 10-percent of Democrats self-identify with the "Tea Party" I wouldn't be surprised if there were Democrats at it! ACK! :o

Wrong. I just hate people thinking that the 2-year old government is responsible for 10-year old problems. I admit I'm not a Bush fan, but that doesn't mean I hate all republicans. I may disagree with their views on how to run a society or mock a government, but I don't hate America. Especially not with its current government. I even read a book called "Americans aren't crazy". But of course, that'd be a Dutch book, so I suppose the writer got it all wrong, too.

I guess it'll just be a difference between norms and values, seeing as you don't seem to be bothered with people blaming Obama for what Bush messed up. Apperantly it's part of your culture to demand of Democrats to click their fingers and make it all right again in two years. I can't blame you for it.

1. Which speaker did that? Specific quotes would be appreciated. Again, I only saw Martin Luther King's niece's speech at the Beck rally so I'm just curious which of the three did that. I have a feeling this just may be a language comprehension issue you had, but I could be wrong.

2. Why do you even care? I'm 99.9% sure there are no more than 7 Americans who even know Balkenende is the Prime Minister of Dutchland, and I strongly doubt any of them get either enraged or elated at his policies, or really care one way or the other. I suspect the only time the behavior of Dutcher leaders make the U.S. news is on the various occasions they display extreme bravery, i.e.:

I'm not a U.S. citizen. I pay attention because I have to pay U.S. taxes, I'm not sure why you care at all.

I haven't seen anyone "blame Obama" for "things Bush messed up." Here's the speech Alveda King gave at the Beck rally. I watched it again and couldn't find her even saying the name "Obama." Maybe Beck or the other woman did?

There was already a thread for this topic (the 8-28 thread).

So no one can give a speech at the Lincoln Memorial? Nevermind if you actually heard what they said since you're so wrapped up in where they spoke. Beck had a huge point when he answered about the date of King's speech: the date of the speech is inconsequential when compared to the subject of the speech. Furthermore, there were frequent references to MLK, and the loudest applause of the day was when his niece spoke. Bunch of racists right there.

So because people exercise their free speech rights by wearing Republican shirts, the entire rally was Republican? Must be similar to how one racist sign makes everyone at Tea Party Rallies racist. Where did any of the official speakers or signs endorse Republicans? Since when does Beck actually support Republicans (he's a libertarian)?

Lemme get the article again.
"(The activists)... had the desire to step up and aim their middle finger towards the Democrats, who are like their Democrat president Obama suffering of growing impopularity."
"'Restore honor', that was the official slogan of the army of countryside-conservatives that came to the American capital this saturday. It was code language, to claim back the land that, according to them, was stolen from them two years ago."
Now, I'm just translating, not making this up. I admit I'm reading a left-wing newspaper here, but that doesn't change the facts. Looking at that second quote, I might as well have been right about those 10-year old problems.
It is rather funny though how the article also mentions a guy trying to argue with the mob.
"When ...(the man) asked why the Republicans only demonstrated against the deficiency when a Democrat sits in the White House, when Reagan, Bush sr. and Bush jr. left a deficiency behind, they reacted with asking the man for his job. 'Academic,' was his answer. 'Academic! Academic!' they replied. 'And you're expecting us to discuss these matters with such left-wing scum?'"
Funny how this is reflected through this thread.
2. Why do you even care? If you seriously were involved in international politics, you'd have known that Dutchland went without a government for the past 3 months. And still, I'm surprised you took the effort to look up a picture of Dutch government officials, and next stumbled upon a picture of some royalties which we don't even give an ounce of power during national "freedom" day, actually the one that followed up that attempt to murder, somewhere in April. But then , you, being an American, couldn't possibly understand that.

As to why I care; you see, America is a pretty big country, with quite some people in it. Some even talk about it being a "world power", oh my. Is it wrong, according to you, to even care about such a country? I can see that you couldn't care less about Dutchland, since it's about a thousand times as small and has about 50 times less people in it, but I wasn't expecting that Americans would be surprised when one showed interest in their country.

The mob did. That's a more important speaker than your three friends there.
(Admit it - do you really just hate her because she's black? That's it, right? My experience with Dutchers has been that, after hundreds of years of raping Indonesian children, a paternalistic attitude toward perceived "inferior races" has been bred into many of them.)
Heh. It's completely true there's a lot of people in Dutchland these days that believe we should kick out all muslims. However, if I would be a racist, I would also be a hypocrit since I support Obama. And since I am neither, I suggest you find someone else to troll off.

The Dutcher Royal Family didn't rape young Indonesian boys. That was the Dutcher colonialists. Average people. Perhaps your grandfather?
