I would not be surprised if he was a multi, but it has happened to me too often that i thought i was a different colour then actual in the game.. the risk of playing too many games at the same time, i guess

As far as secret diplomacy I see a lot of chat about attack here or go through me. Unless I am missing something or a little more detail rather than "read the game chat" is in order.

It's not as obvious as you seem to believe. I have made the same mistake myself. It's not a hard one to make, to be honest, particularly when you're playing a lot of games.

Yes I did see it in the game chat. I remember in a team game, I forgot it was a team game a killed a bunch of my team mates countries.
