I haven't seen it, but it looks SO STUPID.vtmarik wrote:Ghost Rider? Trash?
That movie was one of the best I've seen in recent months, it was awesome! Sure, the cover of "Ghost Riders in the Sky" by Spiderbait was incredibly blowful, but the movie itself was very good. I was surprised that Nick Cage could do it.
So do I, but he did it. He was Johnny Blaze.btownmeggy wrote:I haven't seen it, but it looks SO STUPID.

The US? Pffft, that's a bold assertion. The best TV, maybe, but films? I don't know about Germany, although I am waiting for The Lives Of Others to come out on DVD, but personally I think South Korea has made the best films in the world in the last 5 years. Don't get me started, mind, 'cos I'll bang on forever about South Korean films.btownmeggy wrote:Watching and contemplating this movie made me decide that other than the US, of course, Germany is the country that's making the most really good movies these days.
Me too - BIG fan of S Korean cinema! Especially Kim Ki Duk - i think Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter And Spring is my favourite so far. Old Boy comes a close second. Watched Lady Vengeance finally the other night and that was great too.Stopper wrote:The US? Pffft, that's a bold assertion. The best TV, maybe, but films? Anyway, I only ever watch films that are subtitled in the cinema - I just watched Apocalypto. Half-decent movie, as far as it went, but as I didn't know much about it before I went in, I was surprised to find out afterwards that the civilisation in it were the Mayans, and not the Aztecs. I'd always assumed the Mayans were in steep decline by the time the conquistadores arrived, but no, thanks to Mel Gibson, I've been corrected on that.

Yowzer! And I thought I was the only one! That Kim - you either love his films or you hate them. Or you're puzzled by them. I really liked 3-Iron - I could see (what I think is) the point of that - it details the life of an outsider, and in a highly original way. But while Spring, Summer... was beautiful to look at (and the little boy's laugh when he was mistreating the animals was infectious) - I'm damned if I could work out what it was about. I've yet to see Bad Guy, The Coast Guard and Samaritan Girls - they have been sitting at the top of my DVD rental list for MONTHS - but I don't know if I would recommend Address Unknown, BTW.heavycola wrote: Me too - BIG fan of S Korean cinema! I only watched it to see if I could find a anti-semitic subtext. I'm not too sure if there is one, unfortunately - although I know people have tied themselves into loops to try to assert that there is one...heavycola wrote:But as for paying money to watch the violent fantasies of an anti-semitic wino: no thanks.
Have you seen Infernal Affairs? I haven't seen The Departed, but I doubt Infernal Affairs would disappoint anyone, if you like a good, intelligent thriller.Aegnor wrote:Just seen The Departed lately. Was very disappointed. It started out great, up to the middle, when it got really far fetched, and LONG ffs - it's 150 minutes long. If you thought about seeing it, I suggest you either download it or wait for the DVD edition.
I was hoping that would rile people. Especially how I included the "of course".Stopper wrote:The US? Pffft, that's a bold assertion. Ha, yes. Anyway, I, too, was watching it very carefully for all sorts of things that would offend me, not just anti-semitism. I wasn't offended at all by Apocalypto. In fact, I liked it quite a bit, thought many of my Latin American colleagues had much disparaged it to me before I went to go see it, saying that it maligned Mayans. I didn't think it did.I'd always assumed the Mayans were in steep decline by the time the conquistadores arrived, but no, thanks to Mel Gibson, I've been corrected on that.
What've you got against winos? Hmm?heavycola wrote: But as for paying money to watch the violent fantasies of an anti-semitic wino: no thanks.
I've never actually had a conversation with you, but you sound SO STUPID.btownmeggy wrote:I haven't seen it, but it looks SO STUPID.vtmarik wrote:Ghost Rider? Trash?

But I was calling you a jerk. Which you often seem to be.Jesse, Bad Boy wrote: I wasn't calling you stupid, but rather that saying that a movie sucks or is stupid even though you have not seen it is possibly the dumbest thing you could say.
Oh, well, in that case, go f*ck yourself. I've been pretty reserved about it, but you seem to me to be the most pretentious, stuck up bitch on the forum.btownmeggy wrote:But I was calling you a jerk. I'll admit I probably haven't heard every stupid said phrase uttered, but that doesn't stop me from knowing a stupid comment, or from me ranking it as incredibly stupid. Also, do you earnestly think that's the dumbest thing that could be said in the realm of human communication??
Actually, I make it a habit to purchase books after reading the synopsis given, as well as see most of the films available in the theater. Admittedly, I mostly stay away from the kiddie films (notable exceptions being Chicken Little, Shrek, and a few others), as I know that they will not peak my interests (lack of complicated, adult oriented, or intelligent plot) and I usually know what I'll get when I read a review of it in the local paper.Have you HONESTLY never judged a book by its cover? Have you seriously never said to yourself, "I don't think I'll go see that movie, because it doesn't look like a film I'd enjoy"?

What are you talking about. She is WAY better than I am. She is also WAY better than Ron, but that's not saying much.Jesse, Bad Boy wrote:You're no better than the other trolls.
