Looking for map ideas

Post by natty dread »

I'd like to start a new map, but I don't really know what I'd want to do next.

Furthermore, I've never really been too good with gameplay design - I like to draw map images, but the gameplay design part kinda just gives me a headache... which is why a lot of my earlier maps have been collaborations with other mapmakers who have designed the gameplay for me.

So, if anyone has a great new idea for a map, and at least an initial idea for gameplay, let's hear it.

There are some pretty cool abandoned maps hanging around...

i can come up with a lot of ideas, but as I believe you know, cannot even do a screen shot....

However, as Andy noted, try starting with the abandoned maps. No sense reinventing the wheel. If you don't find anything there, then go ahead and begin new. Besides, looking them over may help you see why some maps fail, so you can avoid those pitfalls (though sometimes its just time/commitment issues).

Do a map on Trinidad & Tobago  - I'm horrible at graphics and know nothing about xml otherwise I'd at least look at joining with someone to do it

10:42:43 ‹Sackett58› fine, I'll take my panties elsewhere

Well, I'd like to hear more than that... do you have a gameplay plan in mind? Or even a general idea about it?

The game is still open btw, anyone can suggest gameplay ideas... and who knows, if there are lots of good gameplay plans posted I could even do several of them ;)

Welp if you'll accept a pencil sketch to work from (sorry but I need two functioning hands to do ps). I could supply some gameplays, hopefully better balanced than Korea was.. loads of cool places that don't have maps just yet... Taiwan comes to mind... I always thought the traditional cultures of Okinawa could use some rep. plus we need some pirate stuff and I'm researching a history of Blackbeards captured ships, might be a cool map as well... We've got Haiti... prolly could use a Dominican Republic. Many countries in Africa have awesome histories... something about the Asante and the British would be cool.

I like a Pirate idea---edbeard had a pirate map that was abandoned/vacationed I think.

There is also a wealth of information for the pre-colonial empires of Africa. Similarly wealth of information for Islamic Caliphate empires.

If you want to get outside the standard 'geographic representation,' I'd like to see some more maps that are on a smaller scale---like an imagined space station you must conquer, or battling control of a spaceship.

Battle on the battle ship would be cool. Or even PIrates boarding a captured ship... to rerturn to my obsession with Pirates

A pirate themed map would indeed be cool. Maybe a pirate town like Tortuga or just a ship.

Hey, Korea turned out pretty damn fine after a little tweaking... anyway, the ideas sound cool - if you want to sketch up some gameplay plans, it'd be great.

I have a couple ideas on it... one is using the current T&T .. basic map with key areas (main cities/towns, tourist destinations, 3 highways, tar lake known as the pitch lake) , one airport on Trinidad and one on Tobago, one dock on Trinidad and one on Tobago... the main reef in Tobago and some of the diving areas... standard kill everyone game play or even something like control all tourist destinations.

Alternatively from a semi historical viewpoint, British, French, Spanish ships battling for the 2 islands.

As I said in a PM vic fontaine and I are working on a war of the roses map. I'm working on the game play in detail next weekend, and he's doing the drafting free hand. Unfortunately we don't have any graphic skills atm.

Pirates or Taiwan could be cool. One thing I thought of (that would be rather complex) is an evolution map. Essentially, each player would have an evolutionary tree (separate from the 'main island' that would be on the map) and you would get bonuses as you "evolve", and different paths in the tree would supply different benefits. It's sort of a modification of R&C in a way. It would be rather involved and take a good bit of gameplay work, but I think it could be cool.

Additionally, you could pick up one of Jota's maps that he offered up to anyone who wanted to perfect them. http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 3&t=152996

So... anyone willing to put up a gameplay draft? Even something done in ms paint or pencil.

I had figured we could make this like a sort of pseudo-gameplay-contest-thing where people could post their gameplay sketches and I could just choose the best... but then I kinda understand if people don't want to go through that trouble unless they have a certainty that the map will be developed...

I have a really cool idea. With the working title Hex.
I have never done this before and looked through the Map Foundry links and see a lot of information about something called XML and how to get started. I am not a programmer. I am more of a conceptualist, but I have been pondering this for some time now.
I'm not sure if my concepts will work, or if were tied to certain Conquer Club boundaries, but I would love to discuss this with someone.
if this seems interesting. Please send me a PM, and I will start detailing my concept on paper.

Ugh... I have such a lack of motivation lately... but I might still get something to you yet.

What about a game play based on how backgammon board works but not actually having a backgammon board as the map?

34 floor building...move between floors with elevators, stair wells, express elevators...i don't know...maybe too many choke points. I quickly google image searched it and came up with a pic that made me lol a little

Well, the idea seems original, just not too sure how to make a specific gameplay out of that. How to translate it into a CC map.

SOOOO funny ... I have been spending ages trying to learn how to run a graphics programme and researching like a little devil the War of the Roses ... sigh ... happy to help out with gameplay ideas on that and my graphic skills are just shy of hopeless so I totally endorse that idea ...

My other idea I am working on (just in case someone else has already thought of it ... lol) is Corregidor. Really interesting story in that the Americans lost to the Japanese there in 1941 only to turn tables in 1945 and set up both the realease of the Philipines as a whole and the start of the end for the Japanese in the South Pacific.

Anyhow ... I guess that's the point of this forum ... share the good ideas and they will happen :P
