Post by IditarodGuy »

Has anybody thought of making a Hunger Games Map based on the book and now the movie? I think it is a great idea, please let me know what you think.

The map maker would need to do something about that, like change the name a tiny bit, or get permission to use it.

Getting permission would never happen. It is to big a property now. If you changed it enough to be made without the copyright issue, would anyone really see it for what it is?

No one even wants to try? I think they would want more publicity to make more people watch it/read it, and a map would be great. "if CC even has a map for it may actually be worth watch and reading" I just want someone to TRY.

Never read the books or seen the film, so what is so great about it that you feel would make it a great map?

What features could be incorporated into a map?

Unfortunately iditarod guy, I doubt the marketing or publicity they'd get from a map on CC is it worth it to them, considering they've had #1 / #2 at the box office for quite a weeks!

Overall, working with copyrighted material can be very difficult, and even more so when something is new / hot and profitable.

Someone could create a map based on a similar theme with careful allusions to it, however.

No, everybody would know what it was based on and criticize that we did not make it for the Hunger Games, but tried to alter the story so we could make a map.

The biggest problem with copyrighted material is that you need to change it . Every attempt to create a map from copyrighted material is mostly wasted time, very hard to do (specially if you go with your first map) and it ends up with something that is not a map you wanted at the beginning.

But to give an advice, a map based about the topic/general idea that was the inspiration to create the hunger games story could be used easily "The Greek myth of Theseus served as the basis for the story.....etc etc" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunger ... nd_origins

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theseus#Th ... e_Minotaur

Labyrinth, young guys, fight for life, minotarus.....all good elements for a map with a theme that is similar but zero copyrights ;)
