Attack from multiple places simultaneously

Post by ilarry »

My "concise" idea is to code into your attack generator an option to attack from 3 (no more than 3) different places all from one command.

Since the code is already written to generate an attack, it appears easy to add to the existing algorithms in order to have one, two or three attack options for each turn. In essence, there would still be only one attack; however, It would be wonderful to be able to attack from Alaska, Greenland and Java all at the same time.
We might use 3 "attack from" menus and 3 "target" menus, or we could use one "attack generator" and three "targets designator" with three options: attack one on one, two on two and/or three on three.

I truly believe this would, essentially, "speed-up" the monotonous mechanics we've all experienced taking opponents armies to sweep the board. I believe everyone (75%) of the members would welcome the addition.

I believe this should be a priority 4.

Test the water and get some feedback on this. I haven't found anyone who has even mentioned the possibility of this option(s).
Best wishes,
larry

Surely this would only have application in freestyle? Since I don't play freestyle anymore, all I can guess is that it could increase the breakneck brinksmanship inherent in that game.

In sequential, surely this is just needless clutter? It also strikes me as something that would be awkward to use.

Say you attack three places... so you have three menu pairs.

A to B
C to D
E to F

You attack... but now you want to JUST attack A to B. Do the other menus stick, forcing you to reset them to "Don't Attack"? Or say you want to attack again... do they reset every time, forcing you to set them every roll?

I think this is implicating the fact that three places could attack the SAME place simultaneously...

So A, B, and C all attack D...

This makes no sense, as adding up all of those armies would just not be fair.

I think choosing which area to attack from is an important tactical decision, that would be made useless with this option

Well... having played Risk II for PC, they have this option but they don't have dropdown menu's, they have clickable maps. I agree with Zaw that it would be a big hassle using the dropdowns for this, but maybe when we get our own clickable maps it could be reconsidered.
