Swine flu is China and they are claiming bioterrorism originating from US. Earlier a anti-US AF colonel Dai Xu wrote it a US tactic to distract China from looming action in NK on his Weibo, now Sina states it was brought into China from the US via Canada.

H7N9 19 cases 6 dead. Chinese government thinks its from the dead pigs from Shanghai and passed on by birds. This seems about right because the bulk of the infected personnel seem to be based around Shanghai (currently 10) the rest are scattered across the country in 1's or 2's

While the article claims breach of intellectual property, certain members of the Chinese media and military give it darker connotations. If proven to be a deliberate act of bioterrorism against China by the US, it is an act of war. While SARS was considered a man-made weapon originating from Taiwan, China is in a much better position to take offense, and the US in a much worse position to respond.

It's probably not "swine flu" if it's an H7. Not that it's super important to make that sort of distinction on an internet forum or anything. It does explain why China is killing all their chickens though.

In my opinion, the likelihood of H7N9 being a biological weapon is unlikely because currently the NK situation has the Americans busied> HOWEVER one can argue that because of the NK situation, the US is taking advantage of the situation and is indeed using a biological weapon.
But back to the point, there is no reason (that I know of) that the US would do this to China because China is a very important trade partner. Also, the US reputation would be ruined if the world found out about the crime and I dont think that they would take the risk.

If the US wanted to do anything to antagonize China or delay its growth domestically, then it would team up with the Uighurs, Tibetans, Mongolians, etc. via marketing as a form of soft power. Since the US isn't really pursuing these subjects, then it seems likely that the US wouldn't take greater risks with active measures (using biological weapons in China). Even active measures--to my knowledge--do not heavily involve the minority groups in China either.

I don't see how the US would gain from poisoning Chinese people. The US drops money on Japan and Taiwan for missile defense and radar systems on their islands closest to China. Occasionally, they blame the Chinese military for hacking their computers. That's about it.

new update: 24 cases 7 dead and 11 of them are in Shanghai. Chinese government says that the dead pigs in the river have not yet been related to the H7N9 virus

I don't think that it is likely man-made is news, such claims have been made before, it's just that they don't generally appear on the home page of Sina pointing to the US.
