Off Topic denizens,
I'm a bit depressed by what has happened in this forum over the last several weeks. We are now at the point where a significant number of posts I read, if not the majority, are about some ad hominem attack instead of about meaningful political or social discourse. It is toxic, and it just makes the place un-fun for all involved. It is quite simply uninteresting to read people go back and forth about some trivial point.
So, I propose a one week moratorium on all ad hom comments. For Wednesday, May 22 to Wednesday, May 29, I ask you not to comment on someone's intelligence, or their background knowledge. I ask you to refrain from telling someone they don't know what they're talking about, or from telling them that you know more than them. In short, if you don't have something constructive to say, don't say it. It's just one week. Afterward, you can go back to calling people idiots, if you really want to. But hopefully we can learn to go back to the way things used to be around here.
